do you always believe everything you read on the internet? :-3
:lmao: + rep.

The exact scale doesn't really matter if you model it right, then you can scale it up and down.

It's something called the scale tool.

Look into it.

Jay2645
November 4th, 2007, 07:45 PM
Yeah, I know about the scale tool.

And it's not on the internet, it's in a book, too! :p

Anyway, I've made a few changes, I have an interior I'm partially satisfied with, my opening and closing doors work, so I think it's time to show another screenie, this one with a light source! Ooh.
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa115/Jay2645/AT-AT2.jpg

Rescaled, still no bitmaps and no smoothing. The untextured background gives a not-so-subtle hint on what this will be used for.

Tweek is right, the head and feet are way off. o.o

Both should be smaller, and make the legs thicker. Looks like I could kick it and it'd snap in half tbh. It should be thicker width wise and thinner length wise, actually.

Ninjaz. Also, the head makes it look like a bobble-head :X

I'm sorry Jay, but it's just plain bad. The modelling looks poor, and quite simple. The legs are so obviously wrong it's not even funny. Not to mention the only real thing it has in common with the real thing would probably be a shadow of it. I think you should start over.

I probably should start over, but the AT-AT itself is very simple, and most of the detail can be made with bitmaps.
The legs are wrong, I know I will have to redo them. The Drive Shaft, Body, and Neck are fine, I suppose I can waste more polies to add some details to them if I have to.
The Head can be salvaged, if I did enough work to fix it.

What do you expect, I'm brand-new to plane modeling.

Oh god. :puke:

It looks horrible, the feet are way too enlarged but soo short. The head is oversized and done completely wrong. The door looks like crap too, add some detail.

It's nowhere near close to the model.

Thanks to Kenney for the model.Fix the grenade throw, curl the throwing arm a bit towards the end.
Fix the melee, have him drive the stock forward to arm's length for great, face-smashing justice. Otherwise you're just quickly rotating the weapon in your hand, in front of your face, all faggoty-like. Add some more time between melee start and hit, otherwise it just looks retarded, like a CMT melee animation.
Fix the firing animation, it stutters downward just a bit at the very start.
Fix the reload like I told you over AIM.

Yea you really do need to work that, look at some released models of the AT-AT for inspiration or watch Empire Strikes Back...100 times... lol.

I looked at concepts from multiple StarWars ships and weapons along with far to many Sci-Fi films and made this:

Putting those 2 together, i agree with Tweek, the glass roof seems unnecessary, and almost human design, try reworking your idea, or leaving the roof off. Also, like others have said...PLEASE!!! Do a render an image with an 'mc' for reference scale please. We are all intrigued at the scale.

Model was checked out by Pete Kneeshaw an ex-game designer, and thinks it's "A model for the portfolio" and "What employers are looking for".

May not be everyones taste but it gets the job done. CLICK HERE (http://firedragonsmaps.net/Crusader/index.htm)...

(How do i no an ex-game designer? He worked with various company's in England, even been a lead environmental artist. He has now settled down in a job as the media technition in my college. Great Guy. Great Friend too. [Had a few wild nights with Pete and lots of college guys]).

So something new in my quest to animations http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1107554213358233840

@sever: i take it those bridges are pretty much vehicle-only? any pedestrians would be sitting ducks along them.

Now, it looks decent, but I don't approve of the method of bending it to make a curve. It makes those pods look oddly warped.

A pretty decent start, but definitely room for improvement. But then there's always room for improvement. ;D keep at it.

Sever
November 7th, 2007, 06:37 PM
I know they look warped, but I'm happy with how it is turning out. A good deal of the rest of the map will have the same method of warping applied to it, so it should fit in just fine.

The lower bridge (background of picture 5) is actually infantry only, due to barriers, but the other two are the only incoming vehicle access to the base (which I am currently working on). I also have to break a hole in the high side of the larger bridge that allows infantry to access the area from the first level of the attached structure, while vehicles can still pass over the hole and into and out of the second level of the structure unhindered. I also have to make the structure, and another structure, and all of the complicated terrain, and a whole mess of other things. I will be keeping all of the stock weapons/vehicles/bipeds, however, so I don't have to do anything too complicated. I just have to get it done lol.

The landing is better, but not very smooth or real-like. :\

Also, since this flew under the radar in the other gallery topic and I will be putting this in halo, what do you guys think?

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/8289/footbumptm1.jpg
Modeled, UVed, and bumped by me (btw, since the last topic, I reuved the whole thing).

Again, unfinished (parts left out), and the end result probably won't even remain final since I have the rest of the biped to do. Anyway, what do you guys think so far? This is really just a way to practice bump mapping, since I wouldn't get off my lazy ass and just do it, so crit would be very helpful. <_<

Also, bland side is bland (I will be changing that =p).

[edit] Oh fuck, forgot to make the transition from green metal to grey metal (the actual "foot part") more apparent; oh well.

Yes, but I had to restart because in order for my new system to work I had to reformat. D:

This model is beginning to be a whole lot better than the last. This time, I'm keeping the limbs and stuff separate though, so it's easier to UV. Once I am finished, I am going to weld all the connecting verts, and rig the bones. Then I'll put it ingame. :D

So, a small update. Didn't really change much but smoothing and one case of bad triangulation (still making in maya, but I am working some in max).

And about those errors and extra polygons here and there, those will be cleaned up. I just wanted to show this in its near-finished state. Smaller details will be textured in, such as the blade engravings and any bolts or screws.

*blows up a reference and makes a silhouette* Click for scaled image, mind you.

Note the blade is longer, more accute at the tip, and the bottom lip of the front edge is not round, bulbous, or malformed.
Also, the handle grip balloons subtlely around the top and the handguard seems to taper inward a bit.

Yeah, I noticed some of that about half way through colouring the referance. I never even looked at a perspective shot like you have, just some 90X90 third or fourth picture I saw on google. Best thing about it not being for someone else is artistic liscence. Which is why I chose a differant texture/colour scheme too.

These screenies Suck, but it shows what was possiable with 45 minutes of messing around with unreal 3 editor. AND NO, i have never touched any of the unreal editors befor. Its just that simple.

unreal 3 editor = leetsause. just exported mesh as .ASE and imported into unreal. no need to follow seal world rules as you can asign per-poly collison to mesh :0. and you can drop into your map and play on the fly without compiling. lol took only 45 minutes to play around with it to fall in love. talk about a artist dream come true.

Errors i know but here is what i have done so far, I have followed bungies model all the way because you can see where each edge ends if you angle the camera correctly, so you can see where the faces are. i don't like how it's so stretched though.
it feels like it's only a small part of a larger structure.

make bug structure connected to it.

I'm back from my vacation to Florida!
I took your guys' advice and started over from scratch. I gathered more reference pics, and now I have the legs to my All Terrain Armored Transport mostly finished:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa115/Jay2645/AT-AT4.jpg
Please don't hurt me...
Do the legs look any better this time? I tried my best to scale everything as well as I can. Here's a comparison of the AT-AT and MC:
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa115/Jay2645/AT-AT5.jpg

Yes, the rear of the legs do need work, the back isn't as pretty as the front, that's why they are MOSTLY finished. You won't see the back of the top circles on the legs, those are going to be covered up by the drive shaft.

Any comments?

That extrusion in the "main" flat wall thing, it shouldn't follow the exact shape again. Look at the forerunner textures I sent you to see what I mean.

Otherwise, HOT.

Also mad, your atv's specular needs serious work, but it's looking great. Needs to be more dull overall, but more contrasted.

It's very inaccurate. Make sure to get more references. Would you like to see pics mine to get a better idea of how it should look? How much detail should be implemented. Dont rely detail on the skin. Looks like box modeling with extrudes and bevels which is the extremely wrong way to model guns. Correct me if im wrong.

Hey guys, guess what? instead of yelling at eachother like pansies, you could have read the rules and then taken correct action (but, warning is all we can do)

Lets look at the rulebook, eh? heres a link for the lazies--http://www.h2vista.net/forums/announcement.php?f=2

FLAMES VS. CRITIQUE

A flame is a verbal attack. Flames are made to insult a user, and are made with absolutely no backing to them. The aim of a flame is to get under someone's skin by just saying something as simple as "you're gay."

Now, in all actuality--massacres model isn't god awful but it isn't the best and he knows it, because its a ONLY A MODEL STUDY. he wants crit, and what tweek (and kenney, even) have done are what massacre asked for. So, next time, remember why we have a warning system instead of just yelling at the person :v

I actually quite like the supporting beams on the outside and the little walkway you have in there. The crack looks like a slash more than some sort of explosives damage. Try to rework that a little bit. The bunker you have on the left is a bit plain looking, but I like the styling of the rest.
