I'm not good with single player limits, but would a gravity hammer dash work right in CE?
(Note: You haven't put it in so you can't say "why would we put something in that won't work".)
wait... i thought the gravity hammer doesn't have lunge (except for melee lunge) i remember it does shockwaves on impact that kinda act like a force field
and what's this talk about melee? make it work like a sword, the fire (lmb) does a melee animation in 3rd person and at the same time set the projectile to detonate at close proximity-so it seems like an on-impact explosion (but is actually a result of good timing)

masterz: idunno about that covie ship level, after finally playing h3, maybe it could use an update alltogether (h1's covie ship layout was too rectangular in the main rooms. the halls seemed like tunnels altogether. judging from the later games, bungie had intended that covenant architecture had a lot more curveature to it with variance of blue and purple hues (except the elite survivors, who favored a strange emerald-sage color for some odd reason)). but on the bright side, that cubemap makes the ship look newer (between h1 and h2)

I had about 40% of that map modeled, then my computer took the shitz and I lost a lot of my files in a section of my hard drive.

Yeah, I know it sucks but I'm just starting ;P I can already point out multiple flaws; it seems to be too thin for one. But there's NO WAY am I gonna release something pre-alpha. I know better than that, gosh >(
It's gonna be a revolver based on the one used in Trigun. My plans for this are to finish it up, texture it, animate it, and tag it to be a slow-ass 2/3SK weapon with a relatively slow bullet... let's hope I can live up to this plan eh?

Well, yeah, I'm just starting so what would normally take a skilled modeler two minutes took me about an hour and a half ;P So don't expect too much from a noob modeler.
Also this isn't really to show off the gun as much as it is to show that I'm actually taking the time to learn how to model, as well as the future of this gun IF I ever complete it. And by completing I mean animations, textures, everything. I had no intentions of showing any other screens of this until I had the entire model completed. :P Think of this as a Halo level; there's a starting point, and there are checkpoints. This is the starting point; the next checkpoint will be the completed model, after that, the textures, and after that, the animations.
Honestly I'm thinking about restarting the project since I've learned a few more things about 3DS since I started.

:awesome: Those UT weapons are looking extremely sexy. Could we maybe see a Bio Rifle-esque weapon? I'm pretty sure you could tag a projectile that sticks (similar to a plasma grenade) and then causes damage over a time period.

HL2? If it's anything like HL1's rocket, then I don't even know if that's possible >D I haven't played the game in a while and if I remember correctly it had some crazy laser tracking.
And as for custom models, I can't model worth shit, I can't animate worth shit, and all I've made so far is a really shittly low-res handle for a revolver that I'm probably not even going to wind up using :p Learning 3DS by myself is.. meh.

first of all they're not even custom models they're projectiles
second the shock rifle is closer to the beam rifle the secondary is like what you've got there. the link gun has an arch in its beam(secondary fire). both the shock rifle and the link gun have semi-transparent projectiles and the projectiles have pulsations and bloom effect on them (which is achievable by using lense flares as for attaching the lense flare to the projectile, i have no clue)
adding a bio rifle LMAFO i call that the booger gun cos you can charge up the projectile (and it lookes like a snot bubble growing) when it hits it dissolves a person's body to the bone
HL2 launcher has a lazer sight and the rocket follows the directon that the laser sight is pointing
(i would like to see the UT3 rocket launcher and the flak gun (plasma-shotgun) maybe even a custom biped in time)

as for my script editor/level compiler (revamped halo launcher), it has a few quirks with trying to get the unlimited vehicle script, backpack weapons, dual wielding, and a bunch of other script generators to work. once i get those working i'll release it as an interval build and then get to working on my level (that i've been putting off) and working on creating single player script generators (derived from using the zteam sp campaign scripts release)

Let me stop you there. While I really do appreciate your concern about my guns and the graphics, and I do appreciate the fact that you want them to look nice, I want to let you know that I can NOT model and I can NOT animate at this point in time, so that's out of the question. If anybody wants to take it up, they're more than welcome to but for me to do it? I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon.
Time and time I've seen you commenting on someone's work, and the first thing that came out of you would be something about the graphics, and how good or bad they are. However you must keep in mind that this thing I'm working on is focused more on functionality than graphics. I'm working on how the guns WORK over how they LOOK. I'm making sure they're blanced, making sure they're working like they should, making sure they have the correct range, and I'm very, VERY lightly tweaking the looks of the projectiles so they're at least recognizable.
The problem with Halo Custom Edition these days in my personal opinion is the fact that half the people using HEK are going more for how the guns look and custom models, bitmaps, BPSes, rather than how the game itself plays. You wind up with really pretty models (or sometimes really shitty ones), with really nice animations and custom bitmaps, but... they play like absolute shit, and seems like they were tagged by a retarded four-year-old.
The result? You get so many people with gun models and custom animations, IE H3T, but in their case, the way their guns act and play is NOTHING LIKE what they are in Halo 3. The projectiles are instant connect, have infinite range, the Laser doesn't have enough temporary camera impulse, the list goes on. They managed to do a good job with custom models and bitmaps and everything, but the way it FEELS isn't really anything that hasn't already been done in the past.
And before anybody steps in and says something like "omg h3t is a piece of shit" I'm going to say that at this point they aren't looking to great, but maybe if everyone weren't so hard on them they'd be in much better shape, and have more morale and be doing more for the community.
I've NEVER seen a custom Halo map with guns that act like something from Unreal Tournament, or Counter Strike, or even Half Life. All I see are custom models, custom models, and more custom models. But they act like every other weapon ever made for Halo, and nobody ever does anything toward how the game plays, modifying the bipeds and weapons into something that isn't Halo-esque.
I don't think I've EVER seen a BR that had a resonably reduced ammount of Auto Aim that didn't seem like a modified Pistol with AR rounds that headshot.
I don't EVER think I've seen an SMG that wasn't a modified AR that just had permanent camera impulse, and no modifications to the range of the auto-aim.
The only people who managed to pull off some decent weapon tagwork in my opinion is CMT. They made a battle rifle that acts EXACTLY like the one from Halo 2 (save for the range of auto-aim), and they managed to make a totally unique weapon; the MA5K which I use on a regular basis because it's so unique and useful, hence the reason I decided to make one for myself in my own test level and add my own tweaks and touches to it, IE kickback (since it's a primative version of the MA2B).
The point I'm trying to make is, don't focus too much on the graphics if that's not what the person is trying to accomplish. While graphics are really nice sometimes, it's not what it boils down to in the end, unless it's, say, Valkryie, which was a project focused on making things pretty in the first place. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to be able to tell a BR from an AR, and a shock rifle from a pistol, but getting the guns to WORK properly seems like it'd be the first step.
If you look at the old, OLD versions of Halo, when they had a first person mode they had no gun. The gravity rifle has no model. Why is this? Well, I believe it's because they were working on how the gun WORKS before everything else. I think they realized the game and guns needed to function properly and work the way they wanted them to before getting all crazy with gun models and animations and bitmaps.
Just throwing that out there.

Usually the more monolithic parts of Forerunner architcture are triangular, whereas the intricacies are more open-ended and can take almost any shape.
Bah, I wish my comp were fixed now. I would be working on my HCE remake of Terminal - Sun Temple, which will exibit Forerunner architecture in its finest. Huge triangular-prismic spires with overly-glossy solar-panel insets, vaulted fog-shrouded ceilings with honeycombing support matricies, large and stark skyward-facing slabs giving way to detailed columns and energy emmitters clutching the gigantic structures from underneath.
Why do I do my best planning when I cannot partake in its enactment... Bah indeed.

now i know this might seem like showing you the same pictures over and over again (but after months of interruptions, comp failures thanks to my stupid desktop not being able to handle vista, then downgrading and then term papers and finals) i'm glad to finally be able to start working on detailing my terrain.
althoug you might not see the additions on my level, i attached the level's bases, began working on cliff geometry to add variation to the middle-section of the level, scrapped that huge interior structure (i'm trying to go for a more waterworks-meets-epitaph look for that section that's going to be underground) added a gateway (yes i know it looks unoriginal) to the middle section

now things i feel i have left to do before i can even think about being done with creating the level geometry
create a newer-more-streamlined interior structure (downloaded tons of pics of forerunner interiors between halo 2 and halo 3)
place more cliff geometry in the middle valley (where i intend to have a waterfall if ghost's bluestreak scripts will let me)
work on teleport structures (i like to call them gateways) but essentially they're like what CMT has on their levels by the bases- structures or rooms that house the teleporter.
add the skybox
add extra structures and details that i intend to have outside of the leveli have to say though, i'm really dissapointed in my progress in this level so far (all this time wasted and nothing to show except a halo compiler/script-editor program and these lousy screens of geomery error laden lanscapes)
maybe after i finish working on the bsp i'll get to making custom content for it...
the original purpose of this level in the first place is so that i have a level to 1) serve as my first public release after many noob-looking and scrapped projects and 2) act as a testing platform because i plan on working on a halo 3 convertion to familiarize myself with the hce engine so that 3) whe i'm skillfucl enough, i could move on to actual custom content that is separate from the halo universe entirely (due to my own dreams/aspirations and so i dont get a flamefest like h3t)
i have a general idea of what i'm doing but might need to ask some questions/for help in some cases later down the road. overall i'd say this community is very tolorable towards the newer members of the board and people who are willing to learn. there is a high abundance of help resources avaliable if you know where to look such as super sunny's tuts, dane's forerunner tut, CtrlAltDestroy's normal mapping tut and many others listed on ghost's website that teach both basic and advanced skills. i thank all for feedback both constructive (and intended insults, which mean i have to try harder). and i hope to one day be a contributing and well-known member of this community one day

I cant say its much better honestly, but Ill leave that up to you all to decide.

Yes well as you can see this here is an attempt at a forerunner texture in matter of fact my first attempt. It's not that detailed with the lines and stuff its basic to see if I can get somewhat the look. I am not saying its good or bad I'm not judging it, thats the community's (You all) job to do.

EDIT: Yet I took Dano's Tutorial and I still cant get the grasp of damn forerunner texturing. I mean Im not the best at texturing but it seems I only am decent atm doing human looking textures.... Dano you need to get on aim even though I know you dont like tlaking to me "Thus I bug you so much well I havnt bugged you about the one problem I had awhile back. I just need your advice on this. Thanks.

Terror, use shot tags. Also, it doesn't look any better. Filters and grunge brushes != a good texture. Try looking up more tutorials. Even the last gen ones give you the basics, and you will grow into next gen on your own when you become competent.

(Not my model, but an attempt to import one) This is gonna be the model for my shock rifle if I could get the fucking textures and FP to work (I'm holding it in the picture). It's set up with the sniper nodes, and I gave it a ground point so I could use it for both FP and 3P, set up the gun to use Sniper animations, so I don't know what's wrong with it. >(

@LDL: It's interesting. to my mind, it's not the gentle but tough handling that an elite or a spartan would use, but more the slightly wobbly a tad unfamiliar handling of a marine (or possibly a grunt).
For that reason, I like it even if that may not what you were aiming for :)

smash, why don't you try working on the forerunner textures again but only this time use the ones for the tutorial level as a refrence (it also never hurts to take a look at a bunch of halo2/3 pictures that have forerunner structures in them) i'm pretty sure if you haven't noticed, forerunner textures use anything but squares in their textures. the most common thing are the angular lines and the shapes on the floor plating that look like glyphs.
another thing about forerunner textures is 9 out of 10 times they will have some degree of symmetry (yea i know i'm not one to talk, but that's the best i could come up with)
on another side note, take the spikes off the 4-wheeler (it looks kinda dumb) and add more detailing.
nice work hyena it looks pretty close(no, i really really love the way that projectile looks)
(i'm really really getting anxious to see what that mod looks like later)

I actually don't see a good plave to use boolean on making that base. The grid part oin the mancannon could hav been accomplished by using the connect tool and then extruding everyother poly.

I acctually tessalted,extruded,optimized,scale\moved verts the polys.
I know it might have been the harder way but I had no idea that conect tool could be used to do that.

yeah the verts aren't heavy in that area, specifically because they're going to end up compressed together. the stock pinches inward right there so i have some vert moving to do, then it'll be the slickness.
or i could use the cut tool some more but w/e.

lol all of those models in ambush were old, I don't think any of them were even posted in the gallery topics as the threads were made a long time after the models were. I doubt you ever even saw the weapons in ambush in a render.

nah, i never told you i copied it poly by poly. i don't ever remember talking to you about the map, tbh. i have said time and time again that i used the bsp's for isometric blueprints to find the correct degree of curvatures and where objects are repeated. besides that, who in their right mind would copy everything poly by poly? just rip and release. besides, looking at the council chambers, it was about 11k triangles in my viewport, so i had to make everything far lower poly :downs:
that was pretty hillarious, dom, thanks. i really needed that laugh. i don't know why you don't like me, but you don't need to make up shit to try and make me look bad.

It's a nice idea, but the map is of course going to sync for the host. Why not show multiple people (2-4) get on it seperately.
I'm pretty sure everything sync's for the host, as for the clients I doubt it.

hey selentic, you should add a doorway and a tunnel/hall to the back doorway of the structure you made.
you need to fix those errors btw you got uneven faces where you connected the structure to the cliff wall or whatever terrain is behind it (i'd say not bad, but that structure looks like something someone made a while back) i wouldn't -points for originality, but maybe that was your inspiration

Wireframe for those who asked.
I saved triangles by not having divisions in the mesh to connect the parts that jut out to the main model. This technique is a cornerstone in my modelling to reduce tri wastage.

Not really a hard thing to do considering all that is required is to change the .model in a crate to the masterchief. I found it pretty cool too when I tried it out, I guess.

Dano you know its not you to judge where I will be in life thats for me to do, also dont say I wont get any better at modeling or texturing it takes time to learn for some people, not like people that have no life and sit at their computer 24/7 GET A JOB. It will be me to say if I get better at somthing or not by the actions I take. If I could find a gun that wasnt so gay because of its blandness then I would model it the famas f1 was the only gun that I liked. I havnt found somthing to test my modeling abilities im not a bsp creator im better at guns and or objects. well bbl off to school.

Yeah, sort of a really old thread I made a year and a half ago. It's a bit embarrassing, but that's beside the point. I'm trying to show you how I took criticism on something that obviously sucked ass. Notice how both ross and Snaf reacted to me accepting their criticism? If you wanted that, you should have chosen to listen to the people criticizing you. Instead, you yelled at them for giving you help and they reacted equally as badly as you did as a result of your actions.
Also, that thread should prove to anyone who still thinks Snaf doesn't/hasn't helped anyone before wrong. He helped me a lot back then actually, although we never remained in contact.
