Also, I was getting good comments on that piece of crap, too, like this one:

If you want I could help you model it... The radiation launcher concept is good, just needs the right feel to it... don't just put primitives on it though and call it a weapon, use detailing, make them editable mesh and move, rotate, and scale the faces and polygons on each object. Extrude, bevel, and collapse.

Might I recommend insetting and extruding inwards your scope just a tiny bit, to give it the look of plastic/metal around a lens. Also, the butt of the gun needs more detail in proportion to the front.

I suppose you don't know me. On the basis of weapons (specifically firearms) in general, I don't need crits. If I say that i'm finished with the model and I show it, and you want to add something, then by all means. Anything else, you are welcome to criticize when in development.

Modern Firearms (http://world.guns.ru/main-e.htm) has a lot of stuff. The-Blueprints (http://www.the-blueprints.com/index.php?blueprints/weapons/) has some interesting things on it. Just google around for weapon blueprints or modern firearms or something to that effect and you should find somethng. Another good idea is to wiki in for example, sniper rifle or something like that and then look at the references and also the other links. Sometimes they have good stuff.

I used to think that with practice and hard work, anybody could get good at modeling/textureing. But sadly, from what I've seen, this isn't the case. I've watched people on these forums try their best to get better, but regardless they continued to stay in mediocrity. I guess this whole field of art is talent based, and your either going to be awesome at it, or you will keep trying to aim for goal out of your reach. Keep in mind I'm not talking about newbies; I'm talking about people who have done it for a while, yet failed to get much better. Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but it sure looks like it.
well not only that llama, some of it could be lack of patience, lack of time and also poor planning. when working on big projects, you have to take ALOT of time and consideration towards it otherwise you're releasign a broken product (*glaces at the hiredgun staff--which dissolved-- screwing up halo 2 even more*). and yea some of it's talent, some of it's creativity, but most of it is time, practice and dedication to what you're doing

also looks good kenney! first an authentic headlong, now a skatepark? what's next?

Also, looks like you use repetitive scratch brushes. Needs moar custom scratches and not effortless grunge brushes.

your lighting is blobby, your shadows are weak, and using the same grunge brush 1000 times to add "damage" looks really bad. it looks like a bunch of white x's on the stock. the stock material is not supposed to be metal (if i recall what you said correctly) and the base that you painted looks hardly like metal or synthetics.

post a render of the skin on the model. i want to see that. don't forget to credit the author, either.

Unless it's rendered with that texture in the max scene, i really couldn't tell. Flats rarely give you an idea of how a texture really looks.
