Render it better, i only see a small bit of the gun from the angle. It looks good i guess, but from experience i can say that the grip is a lot more ergonomically fitted to your hand. Also, the front sight needs work past a meshsmooth.

Well, after the whole A-Wing fiasco (If you didn't see it, don't ask), I decided to make a vehicle from Star Wars Episode III. So far, I've made the main cannons for the thing, there are 2 ion cannons on the sides (I put together a real-life plastic model of the thing, you know, the kind where you glue together the parts? I made one of those and I'm looking at it). It's one of my first major models (Besides maps, I'm good at those), last vehicle I modeled I only made wheels and a handlebar for.
Anyway:
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/2953/maincannonsan5.png
Remember, it's only my first major vehicle model, and I started very early on it, just over half an hour ago, so I don't want the 3D Modeling Police on my tail. ;)
In case you are wondering what vehicle it is, precisely,
The ETA-2 Actis-class light interceptor (A.K.A. Jedi Starfighter or Jedi Interceptor), precursor to the A-Wing, flown mainly by Jedi Pilots because of the sensitive controls and the fact a non-force-sensitive pilot could lose control very easily. Full page on the thing here (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Eta-2).

EDIT: Anyone here know how to make it so if a projectile hits a target, it disables the target temporarily, similar to the H3 Plasma Pistol effect?

My summer project. After more than 60% of the clan moved on to Halo 2 in May, and I didn't have a good enough computer, I got bored and started playing FF7 again and got the idea to make a vehicle. After scratching out the idea of making a full sized Highwind, I settled on an easier task. The Tiny Bronco. All that is left to do is to: add propellers, fix any smoothing, fix some faces, skin it and tag it. Here is my creation so far.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a258/OmegaDragon_7/tinybronco1.png

Also, does anyone know how to make a vehicle so that it goes forward like a land vehicle and once it reaches a certain speed, it starts to fly? Kinda like a real plane?

Is it just me or does that look like it'd tip over backwards in flight >_>

and how does it go forward?

(just showed dad as he was walking by and he suggested they put depleted uranium in the nose :3)

Well, how it flies, I still don't get it quite right. It takes off kinda like a helicopter, and it flies like a plane, but that theory is only from the 20 second cutscene when they get the Tiny Bronco, after that, it was used as a boat after it got hit and crashed into the ocean. Also, it may look like it may tip over backwards in flight, but I am pretty sure that most of the weight is concentrated in the front of the plane where the motor and the cockpit is and that the back is made of lightweight material. But thats just what I think :3

Jay2645
August 18th, 2007, 02:07 PM
OK, 2 things:
1. Bring up the top of the nose so it flows with the body.
2. Add in a depression where you would stick your finger to the trigger.

BobtheGreatII
August 18th, 2007, 02:32 PM
The Plasma Rifle doesn't have a trigger... >.>

Also, it wouldn't be set up for a human, it's a covie weapon.

Jay2645
August 18th, 2007, 03:13 PM
Actually, it does. Look at the elite holding a Plasma Rifle. His finger rests on a slight depression on the part of the Plasma Rifle that looks like a button, near the trigger. It's modeled into your model, but you left out the depression. When fired, the Elite or whoever is firing the weapon simply presses down on the depression, and the weapon is fired.

Also,

Added some textures to the model, fixed some of the boxyness.
Some things I have to do:
Fix some UV's
Fix that back end a bit
Fatten up the wings
Make the texture for the bottom of tail.
Fix the wing texture to make it look more "realistic"
I got the wrong shade of blue :gonk:
Try to get the real logo. The one I made looks crappy compared to the original logo, and I have tried to google the damn thing but never seem to find it.
Find out how to spin the propeller in a certain axis. The propeller's odd angle makes it difficult to make the starting animation without it wobbling.
Now that I notice, the tip of the bronco looks a bit square, maybe I should round it up.
Maybe perhaps new propellers. Hmmm.
Oh yea, It needs wheels.
And get it in-game. Last attempt ended up in :fail:

I took my first pot-shot at plane modeling today. This took me about 4 hours. It's terrible, I know but I just was bored.
This is all plane modeled except the scope.

At least you admit it. Damn dude, 4 hours for that? I sure hope you were chatting with someone while you were modeling or something....

I don't understand why people have so much trouble with guns, their really not that hard.

Anyway... can we see some idea of scale? If that's something for the MC to walk through, then it's decent sized, and really high poly... but if it's something you could drive a scorpion or god-help-you, a scarab... that is a huge-ass hole. ()

Back needs the hatch open, as the passenger seat location. Shooting out of a window isn't going to be too great for the passenger. If not, then at least add some detail to it.

PenGuin1362

there's no detail to put into it. lights can be taken care of with a skin that way we can save tris for other areas the player will see more of. ie the gun. which, for a vehicle weapon, has a considerable amount of detail. (however the player will see it as an fp weapon). the back hatch will not open because there is already a helicopter for troop transport. the seats in the humvee will most likely be the only seats. if i change my mind then i'll do the back hatch open. plus there will be no shooting out of the humvee. there's a .50 cal mounted on top. that's quite enough.

Thanks for the comments! I have actually tried to keep this model low res for now because the higher the poly count, the more difficult it is for me to move the model around due to my shitty computer and a not so good, but good enough graphics card. Whenever I open a high poly model, I can see it, but when I move the camera it is choppy and for a 1/2 a second movement of the camera, it will take like 5 seconds to move it to that point.

actually it would be better suited to high, hilly terrain with canyons and such, or city flying. something like that is just asking to be chewed up and spit out in an open ocean assault.

I never really thought of what type of map this vehicle could be put into, but those do sound like a good idea :)

As for the textures, they are still being fixed. those are place holders to basically see how it might just look like. I'm not the very best person in PS, but with patience I might just be able to finish it with a pretty decent look :p

Here's one of the sections of another of my WIPs, Graveyard (Hang 'Em High). This is the Shotgun hallway that runs underneath the upper base. The rest of the map, which is a cliff-side, once-pristine grotto, will be filled with other portions of a crashed UNSC vessel, the Relentless Firestorm, along with two Albatross cargo pods, ODST drop pods, a Pelican (for the large ramp at the upper base) and an overturned Scorpion (for the large ramp at the lower base).

I still have to create the damaged regions on this piece, but that will have to wait until I finish the terrain for the level.

And, yes, I'm using Certain Affinity's idea of the 'rabbit hole' for the back hallway.

thats still pretty rough. Slap some detail onto the pillars, the walls, the ceiling.

Sever
September 2nd, 2007, 03:48 PM
If I add too much detail now, the next phase will be too complicated: I'm going to make this piece similar to The Maw, with all of the bent and broken areas. Some of the other scraps on the map will be more similar to the mangled wreckage seen on Burial Mounds. Also, one side of the map will be closed off by a MASSIVE bulkhead of the ship itself. Massive as in: the insignia on the side of the ship will be taller than three spartans.

Tweek
September 2nd, 2007, 05:13 PM
nah, it won't be, this is all 100% modular stuff, you can just chop out 1 section, and break it, then paste it back in.

Sever
September 2nd, 2007, 05:27 PM
They, too are a part of the damage done to the structure. I'm working on the other pieces that have fallen from the UNSC ship (the two tower-parts of the bases), and I will go about the detailing after I have modeled both of those.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to model (or find) and skin a Scorpion tank without its turret, an Albatross Dropship (seen on the beach of Relic), and an ODST Drop Pod?

Bastinka

Looks allright, the pillars need less indentation though... if you could understand that :\

More forerunner touch-ups on the ceiling could be used though.

Bad Waffle
September 3rd, 2007, 10:55 PM
good work, but why are there phillips-head screws on a precision futureweapon? its not like its arts and crafts or anything. Also, fix the blocky heatsink right above the front grip. The bolt also looks wimpy, bulk it up. The front grip is hideous, add more more subdivs to that thing so its not a frickin block. Trigger is too thick, and looks like it would be uncomfortable to the touch. Human weaponry uses touch sensitive pads for their rifles, only pistol type weaponry have triggers. Overall though, its leaps and bounds over the crappier model. finish these modifications i stated above, and it'll be a great weapon. Good work.

Kenney, I am sure he will unwrap it himself. It helps him in the skinning process, so don't bother. Also, it's a tad bit on the boxy side in my opinion, but I like it.

DaneO'Roo
September 3rd, 2007, 11:03 PM
Do what Wave said, and you can feel free to unwrap as much of it as you want if you have time. It'll definitely save me some time. I'll most likely change the layout when you give it to me though, grouping alike shades and materials together and such. Fully unwrapped I could skin it in 1 sitting. That includes bump, spec etc.

That's not what you told me when I offered to unwrap the brutes. D:

I understand though. In any case, I like it better than the old model, and once it's revised, I'll be animating it. >;D

Hope I can do it some justice.

[edit] The origins will look something like this (minus the H2 hands, will be using the H1 hands).

http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/3623/originsbj6.jpg

Not much different than the older ones, but I am going to make sure the melee isn't fail and the reload is nice. Same with the rest of the animations.

I realized this, thus i made it the same preportions and the mag is in the same place. The only thing you would need to do is move the front hand up a little, since the grip isnt as low...

I rushed hand positions here, but its a general idea for the FP view...

well I know what you mean now tweak, its just i dont know really what to do with that side, It already looks busy-enough in FP view, and its that way on the cover of the Ghosts of Onix.....

Im always open to suggestions though.....

Dole
September 4th, 2007, 09:12 PM
I'd give suggestions but first I'm going to have to ask you whether you're going for a revisualization of CMT's current MA5K or you're approaching a more canonical and less abstract rendition of the MA5K as depicted on the cover of Ghosts of Onyx. I've got tips for both, but can give more tangible advice for the latter.

kenney001
September 4th, 2007, 09:21 PM
Im making an Ma5k that is up to par with other newer models. I also did it for personal practice. I made what I could from the book cover, and the rest i just used my imagionation. Also, I tried making the other version, instead of CMT's. There are 2 different ones on the cover, CMT made the right one, i am making the left one. It is also going to replace CMT's.

So to answer your question, it is both. Suggestion wise, I know about the front grip, the trigger, the lack of a hole for the mag to "slide" out of, the charging handle, and the phillips-head screws.

DaneO'Roo
September 5th, 2007, 07:59 PM
