Lost mine, need a new one. Don't want to spend too much - I guess ~$150USD would be my limit. Just something that I can drag/drop music onto, at least 4GB (price > size) with a good battery life. Anyone with suggestions? The one I lost was a 6gb e270 sandisk which was nice, but something different would be good.

Save money. Get a Zune HD. : D

But seriously... uh, I hear a lot on Creative Zen. Just saying I hear a lot. Not saying they're good or bad. Maybe someone could say something else about it.

I <3 my iPod 5th gen lol. the 30 GB is small for me, but... if you're used to a 6 GB then 30 would be plenty.

As for battery life?... if you make a playlist or put it on shuffle you can get like 14 hours of battery to it... and you can replace teh batteries pretty easily too (I've done it)

You don't need iTunes to put music on these either, you can use other programs that don't need installing, like Yam iPod... it's just a .exe that you put on your ipod's root and run it from there... it also lets you take music off of your iPod (and save it to your HDD, you can't do that in iTunes)

Don't get a shitpod. I would get a Zune HD but with your budget I don't think you'll be able to. Creative is a really good quality company. You might want to check out their mp3 players.

Nanos go for 150 for 8 gigs, 16 gigs if you want to shell out the extra 50 dollars.

Seriously though. If you don't want to feel left out of life, don't get an iPod. All they seem to do is keep coming out with a new one. You'll be out of date within 3 months.

If you need one immediately go for the Zune 4gb or 8gb. JOIN THE SOCIAL. Plus if you lose your headphones you can get free ones shipped to you.

Ipod Nanos are cool too, but itunes is kinda annoying =/

Get a walk man:)

but I like Sandisk, don't change if you don't have too. I used still have a Sandisk e270 series, but I lost the usb connection so it's now my backup mp3 player if my itouch dies. (I can still charge it [e270] with the wall adapter I have, but can't add new music to it :()

Creative Zen X-fi is looking mighty sexy. 16gb, wifi, no apple drm bullshit, doubles as 16gb hd.

edit: the thing has wifi but no browser. weak. still a nice mp3 player though.

Apple has removed their little DRM-filled music already.

lol in 3 months it'll still play your music for ya.

I have a 5th gen (iPod with Video) iPod and I see no reason to "upgrade". Newer =/= better.

Find me a mp3 player that has smart playlists that are easy to setup (playlists that form based on certain criteria and update automatically), is easy to organize, has a ~14 hour battery life, and 30 GB of space that's around $140 (refurb iPod 5th gen is $139) and I'll be impressed.

The newer iPods don't really match up to the 5th gen ones IMO.

Shake to change tracks is a major turn off, because what if you want to listen while running?

Chalk me up for that new Sony Walkman.

Although iPods do look nice, they're a bit too expensive for what you get. I think I might go for what InnerGoa-Haruhi suggested (http://www.tastech.co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=289933). I can drag n drop music without external programs, 45 hour battery life so I can forget about it all the time, etc. Only around $120USD too, which means I can fork out a bit on a nice pair of headphones.

e:Also, Zune's aren't avaliable in New Zealand (yet).

If $150 is your limit, I guess you might not be able to get a brand new iTouch. In that case get a Nano.

That's what any smart company does. You release a product and then a year later, after you sell as many as you can and give them away for free, you release a new one to stay ahead of the completion. Plus you know when you release a new product each year, you can actually quickly improve your product given the feedback your getting.

yes, but you can't hook it up to another computer and rip the music off of it without a pay program like diskaid. using ssh to xfer the files is incredibly slow.

I don't care about keeping up with latest trends when it comes to mp3 players, it's going to spend the next 4 years in my pocket.

Podshare. Run the EXE off an ipod have access to all music. I use to use it all the time.

scp, by default, uses an advanced form of SSL encryption. Find, and then use, rsh/rcp - it's the same protocol without any of the encryption.
