I've been using a regular monitor for a secondary display with my laptop using the regular monitor cables, but now i'm trying to use my tv as a monitor for watching movies and stuff, with an s-video. I already know that I can't have 3 at the same time, because of my video card, so the monitor is unplugged. Now, I have the s-video plugged into the tv, yet it will not recognize that its plugged in. windows display properties wont find it, or windows mobility center. the cable is brand new, I just took it out of the package.

please help! I just waited 2 weeks for a new s-video to be delivered, i dont want it to be for nothing.

Can your TV use these wires (http://www.dcelectronics.com.au/store/images/vga%20cable.jpg)?

No, thats why I'm using s-video. in fact, the TV doesn't even have an s-video input, so I'm using a splitter with s-video input, and regular A/V output, going into the TV.

I'm using that cable for my regular monitor though.

Sure the splitter works that way? Usually they just split/switch...

lemme see the splitter, something tells me that's your problem.

-edit- damn you bacon, beat me.

you need something like this (http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-S-Video-Composite-Adapter-inches/dp/B0009EXWQQ)not a splitter.

No its a switcher, I guess I didn't explain it right. its got 4 inputs, each with a/v and an s-video, so you can use either one. then the one output is the same, which goes into the tv. you press the buttons on top to switch between inputs. my cable box is in one, the s-video from the laptop in another. I'm using a regular a/v for the output since the tv doesn't have an s-video.

I'm fairly certain that's not the problem, because I plugged it into a newer tv with just the s-video, and that didn't work either. I think it has to be something with the computer.

E: I just tested another laptop using the same connection, which I am certain works because i had it working on another tv, and its not working either, so idk maybe it is something with the connection. although I still think theres an issue with my pc, because it doesn't work with a different tv either.
