wtf is causing this little dot ?

there is no sky, no scenery in the way or anything.

the lights hanging are the source of the light.

i was having problems with some lines on the wall that i took care of by deleting a piece of scenery (that was above the damn light), but this little bastard remains.

also, i ran lightmaps 1 and the results blew, the shadows were all blocky and shit, i thought 1 was supposed to be good.

i wish i could figure out how to do lightmaps in max :(

Try opening up all the shaders that are linked to the map and click the box on all of them that says "simple parametrization's". I use to get a bunch of crap like that except way worse, and by clicking that it fixed it. see if that does anything.

Phantom BSP and Z-Buffered Tri's can cause that.

Looks to me like the hanging light is casting shadows of itself, in which case if its a scene object and not BSP, setting the "does not cast shadows" flag might fix it. Also, with the crap blocky shadowing you could try setting the detail level for the shaders that come out that way to a higher value.
