Hello, I recently moved into an apartment complex, and I'd like to feel a bit more secure. I would like to know if any of you guys know a way to turn a usb webcam into a wireless network camera, or something like that.
I have a bunch of old webcams and it'd be great to be able to turn them into wireless cameras. :neckbeard:
I would prefer to not spend more than say $30 for this project.

One of the main issues is power, how are you going to power it. Also you'd need a transmitter in the cam to send info, so I dont think its possible with the current hardware.
Cant you just buy a bigger lock? :D

Last I looked into it, 15 frames per minute wireless transmitting cameras cost around 90USD.

Well, dang. If there was a way to hook up the usb from the webcam to a wireless transmitter or even a cat5 (I can run a long ass cat5) so I could view it from the net that would be perfect. Even 640x480 res or less @ 15fps is enough.

Anyone know of any software that would enable me to connect multiple webcams via usb and setup a cctv like security setup? I can run long usb cables.

Sweet, this (http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/09/27/how-to-use-your-pc-and-webcam-as-a-motion-detecting-and-recording-security-camera/) looks like it could be what I'm looking for...

@ Limited: Who knows, it was $5 free shipping, if it doesn't work it's not a great loss, however if it does work, then it's total badassery.
@FreeLancer: I'm tempted to try that, I found it earlier today. :downs:

Mobiscope! Your webcam will act like a motion detector camera and send live video to your mobile phone. http://www.mobiscope.com/
