All right, Im making a topic on this. I wanted to make some better stuff, so I took some inspiration of off this image

http://www.freakygaming.com/gallery/game_art/battlefield_2142/city_war_aftermath.jpg

From there, I tried out some new things. I want to know is there anything I can do to add some fire to this scene. Its still being worked on. Its going to be rendered in UT3.

Here are the pics.

Im going to add some more to the building on the right. Also those are train tracks in the middle.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/SAH1R/allthesmallthings.jpg

Im going to add the roof on this thing, and some walls with doors. Also, I want advice on how to make the inside of the building where its been hit by a missile, where its all fallen apart. Im also gambling whether to put some containers in the area.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/SAH1R/imfeelingthis.jpg I got to close up that one open spot near the debris. Also, those are fence like walls at the buildings base. Im going to make stuff behind them later.

Im thinking of adding some side buildings from the last picture that are ruined as well. What do you guys think of that?

Please help me if Im doing anything wrong :ohdear:

The buildings aren't destroyed enough.

Some of the things that are metal seem to have rebar....

ugh, instead of looking at paintings, look at war photos. Stalingrad, Sarajevo, etc.

Look around here. Great examples of how things break and erode over time.

It looks nice so far, but you need to add more detialed destruction. Add potholes, props, all those goodies. Also make some of the buildings more crumbly. As in props, you could add, rocks, grass, car tires, fire, broken glass, broken pieces on the ground, all that. Its looking pretty sweet so far though.

i looked up some stuff, and theres something i noticed about the buildings (correct me snaf if im wrong) but if it were falling apart, would it kind of slide down?

Make one level of that building or the design and repeat it down. That is if you are going for that style of destruction. Once you have it repeated going down, add that extra big part hanging, and then just add things that will help the viewer to see that its not cloned but different levels being destroyed. I dunno, that's my input on this. :p

if the support structures are destroyed, the section will collapse, like you see there.

:O I think I'm understanding it more.

Anyways, I took the concept of it (the Bosnia building pic) and tried it as a test. If its good, I will add a lot more detail. The roofing I feel like isnt right, but I don't know what...

I would think most buildings would have flat tops rather then a slanted one like that. Make it flat, but keep the hole the same (well, maybe make it look more destroyed and sharper edges, you know what I mean) and maybe a little taller.

it looks fine slanted imo, but the squares look a little wierd

killer9856
July 28th, 2009, 06:36 PM
Should I make them smaller?

have some broken metal beams by the broken area of the roof, as for the squares, the need to look more damaged

killer9856
July 29th, 2009, 04:41 PM
alright ill try that. Also, how does metal look when destroyed? Im thinking of sharp edges, or the metal gets bent

Sorry about the double, but I did a new render to show the metal idea I had.

Is this going to be seen from afar? Or close up?

If its going to be something that will be seen to need enough detail, well, i don't recommend duplicating the same designed woods on the windows. (Like the angles). Mix and match, imo. :o

killer9856
July 30th, 2009, 04:03 PM
Alright, ll mix it up. The camera will be looking up at the building. Im juggling whether to make it day or night. The night will probably look better imo.

BTW Im thinking of taking out those other buildings, and just keep the brick building and the other industrial like building. I think Im not ready for that other stuff yet, so I'll focus on the brick building.
