Well This is my major non computer project for the rest of the summer. :neckbeard:

I'm going to start on it Saturday (Texas, USA). and going to use this thread as a feedback on how it's coming along and look.

I've bought (My dad bought) pretty much new everything since it was a while since I've done this and all the paints are bad/gone and my knifes are all rusted and dull.

I loved those things, except when it was time to paint it, that's when it got a bit fucked up...

You're suppose to paint it while you go and use masking tape, it is very useful.


As for the scale, it's on the box, 1:48 scale. I also found that my dad bought the wrong colors.... not going to bother buying more since the colors are close enough anyways, like anyone can see the difference between gull grey and flat grey.

I have an Academy Humvee still new in its box and a whole bunch of US Gulf War troops from the double star company to fill it with, all scaled 1/35. I really should build and paint them, theyve been in my closet for 4 years now...

Anyway good luck, someone should really start a hobbies thread, so everyone can post some WIP's.

I'm going to be hand painting everything and will roughly follow the color scheme, but will change some to my liking.

The C-Pit is done yesterday and today I've finish the front part of the plane and ony the body and rear remain.

You need way more coats on that seat to cover up the blueish/grey underneath it. And I would think that the whole seat unit would be painted black instead of just the top surface.

If you're satisfied with your work then it doesn't really matter, but personally, I hate doing sub-par paint jobs on a set that I spent $20-$50 on. I paint 40k miniatures, and I have models that were painted with one coat, and models that were painted with 3-5 coats, and it makes a huge difference.

Oh and I suggest using a spray primer for any future models. It makes applying your first coat of actual paint a lot easier and your final project's coats a lot more durable. It also helps to determine how vibrant your colors turn out. Most people go with white primer, it takes the minimal amounts of coats to make a color vibrant. Black primer is used on parts that are generally going to be darkly shaded. It takes a lot more coats for a color to stand out and it's still going to be darker than if you used white primer.

Too many coats doesn't make it fit correctly. I have pieces that even with 2 layers barely fit together. I already went back and painted the seats black b/c I didn't like how it turned out.

If that becomes an issue then you make sure that the paint is watered down. Generally, you're never supposed to use paint fresh out of the jars, especially testor's paints, as they are thicker than any other. A lot of people shake the paint well to mix the oils and water together as usual, then they take the cap off, which will have a little paint on the inside. they then add a drop or two of water to the cap, mix it up, and use that as the paint well instead of the actual glass jar. Worse comes to worse, you dont paint the tabs that go into the other pieces at all.
