I got this new router today. It's a gaming router.
I'm trying to get it so I can host game from this router. If I host a game it shows the IP 192.168.0.197. This IP is local and you can't join on it.
I got m00kz in the game by telling him to join the game through direct IP at
68.191.140.53
This worked.
How do I make it so Halo and UT and other games get players to join through MY REAL IP ADRESS and not through the local one.

Uh, tell them to join with that IP??
Have you logged into the router and opened the ports for Halo, which more importantly are the same as gamespy ones, which would be used to send and receive server info also.

Yes yes yes and yes. I know how to port forward. Everything is set up and I even did OpenDNS.
The problem is that games seem to think that my local IP 192.168.0.197 is my REAL IP adress. So when people try to join through a server browser they get the wrong IP and can't join.
Kapeesh?

Just host the game. People will join if they want to.

Don't post if you don't have even the slightest clue as to what is wrong.

That was the first time I've -rep someone in like 3 months. Way to go and break the streak. :maddowns:
And also I really really REALLY need to fix this problem. :saddowns: I want to host games again.

If you have the required ports open (gamespy, UT3 online etc) and people can join through direct ip then people can join through the gamespy whatever service they call it if they can't then there's a problem with your portforwarding. As long as you're on a local network hosting then you will (almost) always see that from the host point of view.
And yes, i did read the thread. You didn't care to think about what I was talking about.

The problem is that people CAN'T join through the server list. It only worked when I gave m00kz the real IP.
And if you read the thread I already said its port forwarded. Completely fucking port forwarded. Stop telling me that.

But they can see your game right?

From what I was told by m00kz and my freind a few blocks away. They did not see my server on the server list. At all. As in NOT THERE.
I sent him the IP adress to my computer and he joined through direct IP. This worked.

Capiche?[ftfy :eng101:]No, you didn't. The games are reporting Inferno's LAN IP to the master server.
The only workaround I can think of off the top of my head is to put your real IP into the server name with a message to connect via DirectIP. Great for testing sessions, though most people who want to just play will be turned away by the extra step.
Check your router settings again to see if there's anything else game related you can screw with. You could try giving your PC a static IP on your network and then putting that IP into the DMZ, though be forewarned that if you use Steam, DMZ might make Steam not work.

Is it a D-Link, by any chance? Just curious because I have a D-Link DGL-4300 myself.

You should be able to change local ip to what it needs in halo i think. Dunno don't feel like going and looking.

You can only define the client and server ports in Halo's settings. However, you can tell the dedicated server what IP to use via a command line option.

This only works for when the server has multiple network interfaces and is for choosing which one of them to host on.
