Just wanted to know how many of you played Supreme Commander, and maybe we could get a game-night setup for it!

Not sure what else to put.

I do, but last time I had it installed it wouldn't update properly. I could try again this time, but I would probably not join any game nights, even if I could update it.

I've only got the original, not forged alliance.

Also I don't think your PC will do too well online :ohdear:

e: when you update, make sure you turn all the mods off or it breaks the updates

I only have the original as well, so that would work.
My PC does alright in online play, it usually starting chugging along when 3 or more people play, so I'm limited to 1v1's or 2v2 (where the other 2 are AI.)

I bet I can hardlock your system in a 1v1. :)

Heh I was playing a maxed settings 4v4 on a 41x41 map with no lag or anything! I don't play it a lot though, I picked it up again recently but had a hard time fighting off two normal AI.

I am not a Supreme Commander.

I have trouble just beating the SP. :(

I always thought SP was tough, since they start out pretty much maxed and you with nothing, heh.

I gave up on the last mission for the UEF and went straight to Skirmishing.

I keep getting raped by artillery by the AI, which is the only thing in this game where there isn't a countermeasure to.

i do. just finished a game. nothing like landing 150 siege bots behind enemy lines and launching a wave of 10 nukes.

guilty, the shield emmitters provide cover from the L2 & L3 artillery. Just need to have enough eg900 fusion reactors to have the five L3 Engineers around it to repair it after every hit.

I did upgrade the shield to max level, but forgot the T3 engies, I guess. It was especially annoying in the last Cybran mission where I had with not only T3 mobile artillery, but also the Aeon flying saucer and the Galatic Colossus which destroyed my ACU several times and forced me to restart. Anybody going to buy the sequel? After reading in the PC gamer preview that the economy is going to be simplified for the sake of newbies, I'm not sure.

Simplified? WTF? It's the simplest thing ever already...

Edit: Bad thing for the economy devolution, however, the veterancy idea is TOPS. I think that is a totally awesome, and worthwhile idea to tackle. Jesus Christ, I'm getting shivers thinking about it. Dump that idea into Sup Com as is, and it would ROCK. Just like PT boat commanders during WW2 in the pacific. If they survived, they got back to port and LOADED up on armaments. By the end of the war, PT boats had extra machine guns, TANK TURRETS, double anti air craft weaponry... CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT FOR SUP COM!?

HOLY SHIT I JUST GOT A HARD ON.

double edit: i learned this early on from ta, if you build about 4 or 5 batteries of 4 SAMS around your defensive perimeter, you should be able to hold anything off.

Basically, the ability to store mass and energy are removed. So, in order to build multiple things, you now have to make sure you have the production rate upfront, instead of in the first game where it will sap away your mass and energy reserves. No more multiple engineers working on building a building either, not sure of combining for increased research and production. The unit design is terrible as usual, as is their naming. The Cybranzilla (exactly what is sounds like) and the Illluminate "Universal" (it was Galactic) Colossus are IMO the worst offenders.

I am not a Supreme Commander.Low end systems won't lag either until you get into serious unit counts.

I'm going to ctrl+k 800 t1 planes over your base. Unless your system hangs just loading them on approach. :allears:

i can't wait until my new graphics card arrives. 2000+ units on an nvidia 7950 is like molasses in winter.

Your CPU is more of an issue when you have that many units

I play Supreme Commander all the time, definitely one of my favourite games ever. I play with the BlackOps : Advanced Command Units and BlackOps : Unleased mods, basically adds a bunch of units, make the Commanders have more usefull (and much more badass looking) upgrades, and in all, it's much more fun.

On second thought, let's not play a game until I get my upgraded computer.

Is that mod only FA? I don't the expansion, and don't on buying it because I heard it had even more CPU dependent than the original.

Yes, it is FA only, unfortunately. However, I find that FA ran much better than SC, so I'd recommend that you get it. It's also much better balanced, has better AI as well as a better UI and is overall much more fun.

Why do you use the big space wasting UI :-3

well, since it's at 1680 x 1050, it's not that much, and when you have "fleets" it makes it a lot easier to manage the units. say you send one large force into enemy base, macro'd to 1. inside 1, are five sub-groups, all of them having an individual numbered macro, let's say 2-6. if i just hit 1, i can select the groups in a pinch, because 1 is acting as a container.

Woah, I completely forgot that the original SupCom had that UI. I guess I've played too much Forged Alliance lately...

There are mods for the original that change the UI, I think.
