Los Angeles, Calif.-The Star has learned exclusively that the voice cast of Futurama has just signed a new contract with Fox after weeks of intense salary negotiations.
As late as last week, the network was threatening to replace the original voices of Matt Groening's cult-hit cartoon, to the point of actually announcing a casting call for voice actors to replace them.
The compromise agreement, with the studio paying more and the actors accepting less, comes after the announcement of a 26-episode pick-up here by Comedy Central. Futurama also airs internationally in syndication, has produced four bestselling straight-to-DVD movies (later cut into episodes) and an upcoming feature film.
Look, I don't know why the Toronto Star would have this news, but I've never heard them to just make shit up like many of the British "papers" do. So... FUCK AND YES. THANK YOU, SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS. And thanks to John S. for the amazing tip.

It's called the FOX Effect. The goal of the network is not to keep viewers. It's to keep advertisers. As the quality of the show rises, the appeal of advertising in it actually goes down as people are too obsessed with the show to even pay one bit of attention to the commercials. As such, the network can't keep these shows around because advertisers no longer want their ads on them. This is why all the truly popular shows get canceled. Shows that stay on longer aren't more popular, quite the opposite. They have just enough following to keep viewers watching, but not enough to totally engulf them in the experience. Therefore, they continue to attract advertisers and can remain on the air.

The effect was named for the network that shot down Firefly, but applies to any such practice in the industry.

You are mistaken. We already knew the show was back, but Fox was threatening to ditch the original cast. They just now came to an agreement and have been re-signed for the new season.

I'm glad they're finally back. I didn't mind the straight to DVD movies, Bender's Big Score was amazing, but nothing beats a season of episodes. Something that is actually intended for the channel.
