So far, as far as I know, the list of it set up in my mind is..
Pros:
Free Apps
Cons:
Void Warranty
Sure it's probably against apples Terms of Agreement, but I'm not discussing where or how to download such. I'm here to discuss what Jailbreaking an iPod Touch would result in.

Not much. I have a jailbroken iTouch (I will call it an iTouch, I don't care what Apple calls it) and I only use it for emulators and themes. Other then that, I do mainly stuff that I could do before I jailbroke my iTouch, like browse the web and listen to music/podcasts.

So overall, there is no consequence?
Judging by the fact that you can reset or just reinstall the 'iTouch' OS.

Pretty much. Your iTouch will be a little slower though, especially if you have apps in the background. Also, these apps aren't all quality tested (even though neither are Apple apps, looking at how one of their flashlight apps almost melted my iTouch), so you might want to read up on an app before installing the specific one.
If you do jailbreak your iTouch, get Winterboard, 5 app dock, and an app that turns your music and movies icon into an icon called iPod (kind of like the iPhone).
Also, grab the emulators, and get some ROMs, then stick them on your iTouch.

Sup silentwind :D
I recently got an iPod touch. I jail broke it after upgrading to 3.0.
It adds so much, apps they havent been allowed on the app store is probably the biggest advantage to me. What kind of apps?
Winterboard: Allows you to customize your iPod so much, new backgrounds, themes, tons. Must have
There are tons of really useful apps. Its not about getting paid ones, its about getting ones that just werent allowed on the app store because they break apples rules, or its just 3rd party and the guy doesnt want to have to pay $99 to get it on the app store.
I have 3 emulators, so I can play my copies of SNES games I legally have, but play them on the move.
Probably the only Con is the fact if it breaks, which I totally thought I did earlier today, you cant send it into Apple. If your iPod does boot up though, just restore it with a clean firmware and you can send it back and they cant tell you have jail broken it.
Its so easy to do now too, its very unlikely you will mess up and brick it.
GET ON AIM, lets talk!

I don't think there is a single app on Cydia that you would have to pay for on the appstore. I think they are all unique apps.

The only bullshit thing now with Jailbreaking is the Cydia Store. Basically, you have to pay for some jailbroken, 3rd party apps like the new NES emulator. I thought it was called jailbreaking in order to release/FREE your iPod Touch/iPhone from the restraints Apple put on it. But whatever, not much on the Cydia store anyways...

Yeah NES costs, unless you add another source, that has an older version for free. But theres rarely anything in Cydia you need to buy.

If you want to download anything from the ZodTT repo (or whatever it's called) then you have to donate as well which sucks hard. No way around it afaik.

Do it, it's cool.
Make sure you have 3.0 first and I guess you use redsn0w (that's the one I used)
Also get something called SBsections (search in Cydia), it's very handy without having to go into Settings all the time (though you only access the more important things like Brightness, WiFi, BlueToof, SSH, etc.)

Select "FREE" under the donate drop down. That's what I did for the new VLC (which does videos in OGG Theora, and is therefore awesome).

There are cool apps out there that AREN'T free though.
Unless you mean they also have a free section for the same app.
Which would be weird.

Sadly, I don't have that option on mine :( Maybe they changed it or is it just me?

@SilentWind: Use red sn0w (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/126908912/redsn0w-in-june).
@Saggy: Depends on the app. Last I checked, ZodTTD shouldn't be selling much of anything, and their original applications are all free, they just encourage you to donate.

Hmm can't stop raging, Vista safe mode is taking ages to load ;(
I'm gonna end up reverting to XP if this is the way it has to be. Unless it magically starts working.

Don't use that, I don't even know what the hell that is =S
Looks like it's for 2.2.1 also, aren't you going for 3.0?

hope you made a complete backup man. and yeah, you should've used resn0w.

Don't need a backup when iTunes lets you restore your iPod to the latest version (2.2.1).
Also, I have the exact same iPod as some people who did the upgrade to 3.0 firmware. Mine just gets stuck at Downloading Jailbreak Data. Then after 5-6 minutes returns to the 'Connect to iTunes' picture.
I've tried QuickPwn, redsn0w (Now trying v0.8) and something that nearly broke me in half. I guess it could be my corrupt C++ Redist. I have installed?
EDIT: Still seems like it just gets stuck at Downloading Jailbreak Data ( For more then 5 minutes. ) Ugh, anyone want to link me to an alternative? OR just a jailbreak for 2.2.1 not to upgrade to 3.0 firmware? Gonna use the firmware iTunes downloaded for me.

That is the redsn0w jailbreak for 2.2.1 firmwares ONLY. It's what I used and is really straight forward. This is the last version that supports 2.2.1 firmware.

Baha! Finally got it working with the first version of redsn0w, using the command prompt style installer. Worked fine!

Like I said on Skype a million times. It was much easier to go to 3.0, and download the redsn0w I gave you.
I even gave you a YouTube video to watch that was step by step. :D

If you ever feel the need to go to 3.0 just restore to the original 2.2.1 firmware and then upgrade to 3.0 firmware then jailbreak with redsnow.
Easy as pie.
I'm eating some now.
