Ok, I have no idea what the deal is. Hardware acceleration and environmental sounds are both grayed out on Halo's options. What gives? I've updated to the latest drivers. And I'm fairly sure that even though my audio is on board, it's fine enough for Halo. At least I know I was able to do it on my old motherboard. Any ideas? Thanks.

New cards don't work with Halo's hardware acceleration.

Fail. Any reason why?

I've had this problem since like 2004, and I've used nothing but onboard sound.
Onboard is 1337~

It wasn't built to be future-proof.

From what I've heard, it's a problem with Vista-- supposedly it doesn't support EAX. Are you using vista, w7, or XP?

Vista and W7 don't use old versions of EAX, so to use Halo's EAX, you would need something like Creative ALchemy to get it. Oh, and by old versions, I mean games that didn't implement OpenAL for EAX (BioShock, for example, can use EAX in Vista/7 because of this).

Yeah, I've always wondered about this. No way to temporarily retrograde the sound drivers or something when playing Halo?

I'd like to play with hardware accel on too but I'm on Vista and with ALchemy on, I can hear only like every third gun shot.
