View Full Version : Overclocking P45t-a and Q6600

My q6600 is running nice at an over clock of 345 mhz at around 30*c
My motherboard allows up to atleast 425mhz overclock, but it won't boot up at all (blank screen, no keyboard function) when it goes higher than 350mhz Anybody have any suggestions? I have upped the voltage of the cpu to the maximum it would let me (which really wasn't that much more)
Any help would be appreciated :3
Also, for my 4870, I have attempted to overclock it, but when its overclocked I can only get it to a certain amount (roughly 800/1100), even though temperatures are decent (around 60*c)

The entire point of an overclock is to feed the CPU the least amount of power required for stable operation, if you're feeding it the max all the time it's just going to burn out your processor a hell of a lot faster. There's also more to overclocking than he voltage, have you tried different multiplier/fsb settings? Different RAM frequency? Different RAM timings?

should I lower the multiplier?

Well, since the Q6600 doesn't let you raise it, I don't see any other direction you could try... You'll have to redo your OC calculations though, for example:
My OC settings are:
FSB: 1334
Multiplier: 9
9 x 1333 ÷ 4 = 3001.5Mhz (3Ghz)
If I were to drop the multiplier I'd have to go with:
FSB: 1500
Multiplier: 8
8 x 1500 ÷ 4 = 3000Mhz (3Ghz)
If you can get it working I'd just go with:
FSB: 8
Multiplier: 2000
8 x 2000 ÷ 4 = 4000Mhz (4Ghz)
This is what I'm going to use when I get a better motherboard, eventually...

The point of overclocking is to get more performance. MOAR MEGAHURTS, if you will. Its probably his ram clocks being too far over spec, assuming he left them at default :ohdear:
Also your motherboard is not holding you back from 4Ghz, your skill is.

I don't think Pyong is trying to do suicide runs, Freelancer.

Then don't tell him the entire point of overclocking is to get MOAR MEGAHURTS, it's not. It's to get MOAR MEGAHURTS STABLE!

What should my mem clock timings be?

Depends on the memory.
