I'm not great a poems or anything so please do not say that this is a crappy poem or I will certainly hate you. I thought of this from the bottom of my heart so I just typed in of what I felt about the greatest guy I have ever known. This poem is basically about him growing up since the great depression and to the day he died. No Joking in this thread please. This is serious stuff.
As the sun shines, life is born.
Growing up in a depressing time can be such a misery.
No money, little food, and then horror comes at the age of 18.
You purchase a pocket watch and kept it for good luck.
Rifles loaded, and warships sailing to new guinea.
Friends dying from disease and bullets, you are alone and scared.
Japanese firing bullet pass your head. You scream in terror hoping you survive.
The horror ends and you survive the great war.
You return home and decide to go out for a drink.
He walks into the bar and spots the love of his life.
A marriage is held, then 7 children are born.
They soon moved to Anchorage, Alaska.
On the good Friday of 1964 a horrible thing occurs.
Building and streets are torn and wrecked.
The earthquake ends leaving nothing but silence.
Their house stands strong, and no life is lost.
The continuing years seemed to have many and good memories.
1992 came along and your grandchild is born.
The feeling of happiness runs through your heart.
But soon the happiness ends as your daughter dies from cancer.
A sad day it truly is for his whole family.
You spend the rest of your retired years in Oregon.
Living in a beautiful home with the love of your life.
The years fly by and you soon know your life is coming to an end.
Your family surrounds you as they see you slowly fading.
Tears run down their eyes as their hearts are shattered.
You go into a deep sleep and then all thoughts and feelings are lost as you pass away.
Your whole family is heart broken and crying as they know you are gone forever.
Your body is cremated and prepared to be set for the funeral.
Your daughters, sons, wife, and grandchildren watch in sadness.
Tears run down the cheeks of the whole family as the funeral occurs.
As I watch this, I hold onto my pocket watch that you gave me when I was a boy.
We put your ashes away and cried as we said goodbye to the big guy that we loved.
Everyday I carry the pocket watch just so I know I have a piece of you with me.
I always feel as if your soul is in that pocket watch.
Maybe it is since you had the pocket watch when you were a child my age.
I will never forget you big guy. The one I love and call grandfather.
Let your soul rest in peace.
Goodbye big guy.
RIP.
