okay well, so far sapien has only been able to import a small amount of tags, tags i have downloaded off websites don't seem to be able to be imported into sapien, either it says it's missing tags or sometimes it doesn't even say anything and wont appear on my tag list no matter how many times i press add, i know the files should be perfect without any missing tags because they are highly rated with many many downloads and a fixed version where the author had added tags missing to previous downloads, any help with this? ive reinstalled sapien and it still has this problem, thanx in advance

OK, did you place the tags in the right folder? (Ex. weapons NEED to go into tags\weapons\weaponname) Tags can't be placed on the desktop and then navigated to and expected to import, they NEED to be in the tags directory somewhere.
It seems like that might be your problem, but you aren't very clear on exactly WHAT happens, and the run-on sentence doesn't help. When you right-click to place your tag (let's say you're using, oh, a scenery tag) and it says NONE, can you select the tag you want from the drop-down menu?

E: Ifafudmajrsadhsfhsdoufghsdufhasdiasgfisef, I think that run-on sentence would be even more painful for you, Mr. English Teacher.

This is a peroid: .

It's placed at the end of a sentence.

Now that we've got that out of the way, what tags are you downloading, and what precisely do you do with them?

Welcome to the forums.

As said, chances are you might just be doing it wrong. Tags and tagsets need to go in very specific places in the tags folder.

Based on how you're putting it, I can't help but assume you're extracting your downloaded tag archives to somewhere on your computer besides the tags folder in yoour CE directory, then trying to add them. This will not work. When you "import" tags into Sapien, what you're actually doing is adding a reference to that tag in your scenario file.

The game then looks for that tag for its data. 99.9% of the time, the tag you're adding has dependencies, or other references within it (e.g. a shader_model tag will reference at least one bitmap tag). The engine then branches out, and gathers all data needed by looking for the referred tags, and the tags referred to in the references, and so on and so forth and oh god my head hurts. If a reference points to a non-existent tag (e.g. a shader with a missing bitmap), you'll get an error, or in some rare cases, it just won't work.

What you should do is attempt one more time to add a tag. When it errors out, close Sapien and look in your CE install directory for debug.txt. Open it and scroll all the way to the bottom. There should be a series of errors there that, once you ficgure out exactly what it's saying, what tags are missing, and the full paths the game expects them to be in.

Well, my friend told me this before you all did and I've already put the character tags into the right folder, at least, it seemed correct to me compared to the others that worked. I am trying to make a map for my friends and I to play. I am trying to add a halo 3 spartan biped. My problem, at the moment, is with the dialog box. When I select biped and attempt to browse for the file, the file does not switch over to the list when I add it. While other tags do not even say an error, the halo 3 spartan biped attempted adding says "Not all of the selected tags could be added to the palette: You selected one or more files that couldn't be loaded correctly. Contact your nearest Bungie programmer for assistance." By the way, I know that this is a noobish question as most of you would say but I am still learning how to do all this. However, how do I change the biped in sapien? I have chosen the armored marine biped in place of the halo 3 spartan for the time being but I cannot select new instance under the bipeds folder in the hierarchy, and even when i select the armored marine in the properties of the bipeds folder it does not appear in the game. Also, thank you for the welcome.

The tags are already in my tags folder sorted out. Well, there's a new aspect to the problem. I have continued trying to fix the missing tags problem by checking back and forth in the debug file. However, it is time consuming and there are tags such as bipeds that seem to have infinite missing tags as I continue to relink the tags and eventually I have no clue where to find the file to relink from in guerrilla. Is there an easier way to fix the broken file links? I have managed to fix actor variants this way and I am currently attempting to fix a silenced smg tag even though the broken links seem relentless and oddly repetitive. Also, biped fixing has no progress as it is the same situation as the weapon tags. Any help? Thank you in advance. Plus, I apologize for my post before this one as that was posted when I was tired and multi-tasking.

What tagset did you download? Link us to it please?

Is there an easier way to fix the broken file links?Simply place the missing tags into the locations that Sapien is looking for them in? Unless the tagset is going to cause major conflicts with your tags (e.g. overwriting them), the author missed a tag or two before uploading the tagset, or it's simply a mess that you have time to sort out and make better, you should not be renaming the files or changing the references to them.

I've already fixed the problem. Thank you, everyone. Now, I just check the debug file to see what I am missing and go back and forth and attempt to fix the tag. I have only encountered a tiny number of tags that just would not work and I do not know why because it was not missing any files but just crashed sapien. However, they are tags that I guess I do not really need. Thank you everyone, problem solved.
