In response to your blog entry regarding player movement, I thought you may find this article (http://kotaku.com/5339054/the-table-problem) interesting. To sum it up, it's basically an interview with Splash Damage's Paul Wedgwood, regarding the player movement in the new game, Brink. Paul seems to have the same thoughts as you when it comes to player movement.
