Sorry this is probably is a stupid question since all of you are experts at this but...

I model using 3DS Max 8, that's what the rest of you are using, right? I was wondering if there was a more up to date version compatible with the blitzkrieg exporter or the bluestreak maxscript.

bluestreak can be used on any version of 3ds max. Blitzkreig only goes up to 8 in compatibility.

So I can be using 3DS Max 2009 and it'll still work?! Thanks Plague :)

3ds max 8 is the best for halo

How so? I saw some model renders (Map: Eclypse) here that did not look like they were from an early version of 3ds max.

3ds max 8 isn't that old. Its the best for halo because blitzkreig (.jms exporter) works with it. This doesn't mean it's the best version of 3ds max, every new version released is better someway.

Bluestreak works with 9, therefore you can use 9 for Halo. 9>8

Bluestreak also works with 8, and Blitzkrieg works with 8 to, unlike 9.
Blitzkrieg also seems to be more stable then Bluestreak (no offense ghosty)
8 > 9 :)

@Ganon: Primarily I use Blue Streak because sometimes my maps are so detailed that it runs out of memory. In Blue Streak you can set the maximum memory usage in the Max Script Listener so that works better.

@Paladin: So it doesn't work with any higher than 9? :(

EDIT: This is what I mean, this model doesn't look like it was created in 3DS 8 or 9, maybe it's because I suck at modeling or something.

Ok, I thought paladin meant it only works up to version 9 so I got confused between 'em and ThePlague. My bad...

Well I'm going to try to model with Max 2010 and see if it goes well. If not, I'll go back to Max 8. I need some modeling lessons though...

That can be created in all 3ds Max versions.

Just because you have a higher max version it doesn't mean you can model better... it just means that there are less bugs or new and more features...

Personally I don't really use any of the new features in max 2010, because I plane model. So I don't need to usr the lazy tools. Unless it helps me in some way and makes life quicker.

The only reason I switched to max 2010 is becuase max 8 disabled the aero theme in Windows 7 which made it look ugly, and I like pretty looking things :)

And you can use bluestreak and all versions of max like everyone has said.

I never said I could model better ;P

I just said maybe it would be easier.

There are two things that I don't like about 8 that may or may not have any impact on what you're making:

It lags like a bitch when you put textures on (later versions don't)

You can only chamfer with one side, instead of making nice round chamfered edges with any number of equally subdivided polygons
