Personally I think modacity is better if you want useful crit on your stuff, whereas Halomaps seems altogether friendlier.

The only reason I come to this site is for serious crit, and to see some of the WIPs. I go to Halomaps for the friendlier crowd interested in having fun creating content for the game and exploring it's possibilities, rather than making every tiny thing perfect.
Halomaps, with the younger, less mature community, is also less moderated, and without a proper punishment system. With it that way, of course it's going to be less mature. With this also comes those who just make annoying posts, like DEE, and newer members to the community (and those who post like that just because they know that they can get away with it). And once that is done, ADD kicks in, and people pay attention to that post rather than the topic (like an infectious disease, perhaps?). But, along with those threads, there is also good, meaningful ones. Yeah. The work in progress threads, for example, have many people on task, and showing what they are working on, and accept comments and crit as they go. Here's a few examples of the work from the HUD WIP thread:

- rep me all you want, but I like Halomaps more. :nsmug:

This place is already edging /b/-ness, and, to be honest, I've only heard worse things about Halomaps.

Meh, I'm not going to rant about it; I'm already starting to migrate to other sites.

One thing I hate about Halomaps is if you make a serious thread there about your map, a third of the questions are about if you're going to put AI into it, another third are about if you're going to use custom weapons even though you repeatedly stated that you're remaining standard, and the last third are about how are you going to get something to sync over the netcode which already has a well-known and effective method which has appeared in a number of maps (in my case, they asked how I was going to get a device_machine gate to sync, and I had to explain, in simple language, the premise and purpose of a biped crushing script).

You can't expect everyone to know exactly what you mean at all times though :\

Edit @ masterz:
I wouldn't be too certain the Halomaps general population is more competent than inferno, since Inferno invented the assault gametype scripts and most of the people there have trouble getting it to work :x
Unless your post was meant sarcastically, in which case, disregard me because I fail.

Why don't I go to HaloMaps? Its a damn noobfest there. And no one can say its not. I dont give 2 shits whether "there is decent work there!!", yes there maybe decent stuff but the rest is horrendous crap, and filled with noobs who have no idea what they are doing.

No matter how much amazing work might be there, I'm not going to start posting there, you can view work there, without being a member, without actually posting. Therefore if I needed to see the stuff, I already can.

I also dont agree with Dennis' policies.

I'm about to terrify you all:
These people are the SAME people who are going to be running the planet someday. They're going to be the SAME people who are on the road with you, the SAME people who will be your doctors, surgeons, and maybe one of them might even run for President. Now look at Halomaps again.

If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what will.

I personally prefer Halomaps. I mainly stay in the Halo CE Technical / Map Design forums because the Halo CE General Discussion forums gets to many spammers and flamers.

I used to go to Halomaps, but ever since I left my life has been a better place. Thanks to Modacity

Only reason to go there is if you want to feel better about yourself by reading the stupid topics and hearing all of the fake crap crit.

The only way I can stand HaloMaps is my ability to ignore all of the dumb posts. Aside from that I've actually received some pretty decent tips and help on my stuff. BeachPartyClan helped a bit with my HUD, and a few people from there actually hosted a server of my alpha release, which helped gave me perspective on balance, allowing me to make the appropriate tweaks.

There's a lot more pointless posts there, but some of it IS helpful.

CE General does tend to get flames and spam much more than CE Technical.

Overall I try to set a good example there

I typically just read your posts when I want to hear fake crap. :iamafag:

But in all honesty, I go to halomaps because not everyone there is a fool. There are some really decent modders there who get shit tons more done than anyone here. This forum is less of a modding collaboration community and more of a place where people with common interests talk. I'm no frequent poster on halomaps these days, but if someone is really looking for help and I can offer it, I will. There is a lot of spam there, because it is a gathering point for children who just discovered the internet and googled the name of their favorite video game. But heres a quick count of modders/3d artists who started there (to the best of my knowledge that is, if i missed/misplaced you, dont fret)

I can't stand halomaps simply because it's all ADHD all the time; any time I'm in a discussion about something I find myself repeating certain points over and over and over again until I want to choke a bitch (the cerebrum thread there is the best example; I kept explaining how the banlist system worked over and over again after the initial confusion because people kept asking). From my experiences, people who are posting about something don't really think for themselves, and/or think they know everything when they couldn't be further off the mark.

I have enough trouble communicating as it is. I really hate having to decode posts or having to repeat myself.

no more of this cross community crap alright, we dont have the sun shine out of our ass, and neither do they, 2 different communities, that have ideals that appeal to different people and those ideas should stay there.
because all this dick waving and measuring on whos a bigger/better community and degrading each other over being different has a name.
fascism.

no more Halo LOL FAIL MAPS DERP shit alright, it's old, annoying, pointless and above all,
really fucking gay, because at the end of the day what have we proven?

I agree, its hard to understand alot of posts, and even when you explain things, some random person will chime in and not understand but make a big who-har about it.

I dont even see Halo Maps as a community, whenever I go there, its only for actual map files, I completely forget it has a forum, considering the link is tucked away on the right.

This. I don't like their forum software either.

As for the members go, I think they are less mature, but so was halomods, etc. I always thought we got the best members of Gearbox and that's why we had/have a solid HaloCE base.

(landover baptist is a joke site)

Also, I'm pretty hesitant to keep this thread open. I suggest you all take Snaf's warning seriously and not stir up shit, because stirring of shit will result in deleted posts (which I just did), infractions (which I don't want to give out), and thread lockage (which has already happened once). I don't really know what more there is to be said here but I suppose go ahead and say it. I've never been one to like threads that just yell at halomaps because (A) they nearly always result in forum battles and (B) I don't think there's much value in threads that basically just put down members of another site.
