View Full Version : Night-Vision effect.

So I've been toying around with an idea to do night-vision for a while. I looked around in the sniper.weapon_hud_interface and saw that it was as simple as "connect to flashlight" so I just set that, and turned off "only when zoomed' but it still only works when zoomed

Any ideas?

Seriously, who the hell ever uses the snipers night-vision? Its rubbish and doesnt help.

I was trying to get it working for Gridlock so people can see somewhat better. You can change the tint and stuff. Also, night vision in a dark map is cool

Wish I knew, I'd be glad to help!

So you unchecked the mask flag's, night-vision flag's and desaturation flag's "only when zoomed" and the screen effect still doesn't render when you turn on your "flashlight"?

basically.

What Im thinking, is that you still need a scope mask. So maybe just put a blank bitmap or something.

As far as I have been able to tell, night vision cannot be linked to the flashlight and appear when unzoomed. I've tried on multiple occasions.

I remember me and you tried to get this to work a while ago, and you said you couldnt get it to work.
I looked around in the shaders, just like frain did, did some testing, and couldn't get it to work either. If you can get this to work and show how you did it, ill give you a cookie.

@limited
wtf? Shouldn't look like that at all.. Should be green in the snipers zoom mask.

~No its not Nightcamp CE.
Heres a picture of the same place without "night-vision" turned on.

Heres a clue, I'm moving in the shot (both shots actually), and yes its a custom map.

If I took the shot 2 seconds later, it would be so obvious.

E: Wow, props to Horns for getting it correct, it was Yoyorast...but what part?? :D

Secret room

Ding ding, we have a winner...

But yeah, as you can see it demonstrates how crap night-vision is on the sniper. Any dark place (like the fall to secret room in yoyo) and you cant see a thing, it just makes it slightly green.

Thats because there isnt anything to see. all you have is a wall. (at least from what i can tell)

Not sure how shot tags work so I'll spoiler them:

It seems to get slightly easier to see. Maybe it doesn't work when it's 100% dark, but it helps in not-so-dark situations.

well i learned that if you gfx card doesn't support pixel shaders 2.0 then night vision is the ultimate hack because you can see any biped anywhere with it.
like in this vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSDY1l6EQsI) you can modify the config file to make the sniper night vision like that of a pixel shaders 1.0 gfx card.

see how it looks way different and it is grealy helpful :D

Night vision amplifies visible light, but in the absence of light, there is only darkness.

Thats not an emo poem, its tha truth.

yeah if those who disagree that Nvision doesn't help at all..
if you guys picked up on those texture terms koorn was saying... it basically implys that there actually needs to be a texture visible to amplify... by the looks of it... its just a flat black image... which is why it doesn't work on that map...
