View Full Version : [ODST] I got 11.1 million (NEW RECORD ITT) and it didn't count.

I'm beyond pissed off right now. After spending since NOON today setting a new record in Halo 3: ODST, we get ABSOLUTELY SHIT ON by Bungie's buggy stats system.

My post on the Bungie forums: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=37706816

Please back me up and keep this at the forefront of their forums. This is beyond absurd that this bullshit can even happen.

Until something happens, I'm through with ODST. Already wasted enough time on this game as it is.

In our attempt to reach the ODST Firefight leaderboards, my friends and I made it our goal today to reach a score of 10 million. We started a little past 12 PM EDT and played through 11 PM. By the end of the game, after spending all our lives, we had a score of 11,156,131.

All of us are across town from each other, so we were all playing the game on our own Xbox 360s over the Internet. There were no connection problems throughout the entire game. In fact, since we were each connected over the Internet, if there WAS a connection problem, the game would have ended right there and thrown us ALL out of the game.

About 10 minutes after waiting for our score to appear, we started another round of Firefight to check is the servers were backed up. We got one kill, then ended the game. Not surprisingly, the short game of ~500 points appeared, but there is still no trace of our 11.1 million score?

It's extremely frustrating and disappointing to literally waste over 11 hours, reaching a new record, only to have it not count. The bug is not with us, but with the game or the servers. Firefight is a huge part of ODST, and the stats are a huge part of Firefight. It's quite obvious Bungie wants to put a lot of emphasis on scores, motivating people to play the game with leaderboards, service records, and "flaming, red-eyed skulls". With this bug, the motivation is gone.

So, why is this happening? Why does this bug even exist? Is it something we are doing? Is it flagged for review? Will it ever post? Is anything ever going to be done about it?

I've taken several photographs for proof and we have uploaded a film of the game (99.4 MB) for irrefutable proof. Links are below.

Almost as bad as being let down by some BK on the 59th wave of the Endure challenge : http://www.bungie.net/Stats/ODSTg.aspx?gameid=9663214&player=luciferJM (http://http://www.bungie.net/Stats/ODSTg.aspx?gameid=9663214&player=luciferJM)

BK based on death count, not score.

Jcap, why did you even attempt it after your old 6 million record didnt count? (Or did Bungie say they fixed it)

Feel bad for you man, understand fully how pissed you are, this shit really needs to be fixed.

How do you view the global leaderboards by the way? I can only compare it to friends.

Edit: I replied on B.net, hopefully it will stop those noobs yelling about omfg he wanted high score and get to the REAL issue.

Yeah, I'm more bothered by the fact that there's a chance the game won't show up after playing for hours. What if we decided to do it on legendary (we were going to, but decided against it for this reason), and we spent 12 hours playing?

I spent some time looking at where the game prepares post game data before it transmits to the Bungie Data Hive this morning. I have a general idea on how to disseminate the underlying data blocks. I've never really done any packet sniffing before, so I'm not too sure (right now) how to go about grabbing the post game data as its sent to the servers. Not saying I'm making learning how to grab and read the post game data a high priority, but it is interesting to me none the less...

I don't think there's any real-time leaderboards (which is pretty lame, and something we would include in Cerebrum tbh), but they mention the leaders in each weekly update.

Wait, where are you packet sniffing? I thought all data sent to and from the Xbox was over LIVE and encrypted. Did you break the encryption? Is the data sent straight to Bungie unencrypted? Are you getting it straight from your devkit?

Kornman00

This kind of data wouldn't be sent to XBL (afaik). Its POSTed to their servers. Of course there are authentication methods in place...

Why is this a sticky?

You're overreacting. If you just spent 11 hours playing just to get a high score on the friends list leaderboards, and didn't enjoy those 11 hours, then maybe you should reprioritize how you spend your free time. Yeah, it's frustrating, but make sure you're actually having fun when you're playing.

EDIT: Why so bitter that you needed to -rep me? I'm not attacking you. Don't be lame.

As much as that sucks, how did you manage/have the time to play for 11 hours straight :gonk:

Congrats on the high score tho.

I tried to give a logical, well-reasoned post to balance out the waves of idiots.
I'm not sure if it worked, but next time, you shouldn't use Lost Platoon because Bungie CLEARLY wasn't joking in that weekly update, you know. :saggy:

We didn't actually play for 11 hours straight. If you want to download the film (it's up now!), you can see that we took two one hour breaks. We just hid in the back of a map at the beginning of a set.

It's still 11 hours that I didn't do something else. Even if we have two 1-hour breaks, we can't go out and do something else because we have a game to get back to.

If you have an 8 hour work day with two 30 minute breaks, do you actually go around saying you only work for 7 hours?

Arteen
October 6th, 2009, 11:47 PM
The way you phrased it made it sound like you played for 11 hours straight, which makes you seem a bit... super-crazy-obsessed. 3 sets of 3 hours each sounds much more reasonable.
