Today sees the dawning of my new side project for my ever growing portfolio , for those who share a love for EA`s Dead Space like i do , this ones for you.
When i originally played Dead Space , i remember being scared to hell and back , it was a none stop scare-fest all the way till the end of the game , i enjoyed everything about it , the art work , the universe , the story , everything.
This is why i decided to start the "Planet Cracker" project , originally i was hoping to make Planet Cracker into another "Lets play" series , where i would record myself like my original series but playing the game through on insane and only with a Plasma Cutter , sadly that never came to pass , so now the name has been passed onto something alot better.
Mission Statement (What i hope to do)
By the end of this project i wish to have a very well done replica of some of the areas from the USG Ishimura connected via halls with ducts and various other neat parts , so that it can be used as a playable level in "Tripwires" "Killing Floor" which was a UT2004 modification until it got made into a proper game.
So far i have worked on porting the textures from the game , as you cannot rip models effectively on the computer i am using , and ripping would also defeat the point in which i am doing this , to make an accurate replica from the ground up using only ripped textures , the main task for me so far was to get the shop working and looking right in Killing Floor which turned out really good as you can see here ...

Been working on this alot in my free random time , decided to pick it up again while my xbox is broke again , its the 3rd one i have had now :( , but yea anyway , all my meshes , EA`s textures obviously.

The atmosphere in those shots have it's own unique eeriness to them separate of dead space, and I like that.

Got a little crazy on minor details in the tram station today , whilst connecting it to the security corridor , everythings lighting is gonna obviously be tweaked later on , for now its just so i can get things ingame , looking decent and testing.

None existant atm , the whole idea of the level is its a basic layout , rooms going around in a square shape , linked in the middle to the main security hub , then the tram station serves as a bottle neck , thing is , theres no way out from it , and you cannot weld the bulk head either , so its not wise to camp there.
There are gonna be vents all over the place , roofs , walls , and some floor plates that can move for infected to get in , and the player just has to keep moving like normal to the trader , problem is , i am gonna have 3 traders , one at the tram station , 1 in the research wing , and another further around the map , so the player has to hope they dont get cut off from those sections by infected.

Are you going to re-use sections to make the map bigger? Or will it all be done manually.
BTW is this being done in 3ds or brushes?

The only things being reused will be a couple of meshes for the corridor sections , nothing else is being reused.
As for the question of brush or mesh , its a mixture of both with dynamic lighting to make it look half decent.

Finally finished the corridor , now its onto the main level itsself , the parts of this section can be reused later on in small ammounts such as the wall details.

Been working alot on the main Hub room here , the security room , that allows you to go to the other wings of the Medical Deck , i still have to do the detail for the walls floor and celing , and then also the spawn in the celing and the frame work around the computers , and then that part of the ship is done :) then its onto the fun main parts of the level.

Finally , got the fucking room done , just need to add sounds and a spark and water drop effect on the pipes and then boom , no need to do anything else to it , been working on this damn room all week T_T.

It looks like your hard work paid off because that looks amazing, all i can hope now is with those amazing visuals that the game play is good, and that you do 100% release it because i will play the shit out of it with friends, like a whore on Christmas day.

Been working on this for 3 days in hopes someone can help me rig it to the KF skeleton and then get it ingame with a mutator , hell i am concidering various permutations for the characters so you can tell them appart , aswell as different colour schemes.
This one is the Custom lvl 3 armour , when i say custom i mean i simply added the plate armour and shield to the left arm aswell as the right so its technically not the same as any of the armour in Dead Space.
Back to work on the level now , then i might work on the weapons somewhere down the line.

I realised it was bad when i actually checked my figure reference i have against the actual ingame reference Sel , the texturing is fine , and the modeling of the helmet is fine , its just the torso armour that is done wrong , it should be seperate pieces instead of huge ass rings of armour , so i have to re do that , that and also then just fiddle around with it to get the other permutations , which is like a 5 min job ... i`ll do it later.
As for comments on the level so far from everyone , thanks all , i am busy actually planning my next move to the other 3 rooms , linked via corridors , in all the level is`nt amazingly big , its just complicated because of all the meshes.
Hope to update when i have more decent progress :)

Its all ok now people , not bothering with anything else anymore just focusing on the level , taken all the constructive critizism and decided to stick to levels instead of fucking around with other shit im no good at , thanks for all the input :)

I have very unfortunate news for everyone,
Unfortunately this level has not been canceled, I did have it all planned out and was about half way through development, its been a one man project from the beginning so I have put loads of my time and effort into this project but unfortunately no more.
Whilst using my computer recently I found it had contracted a virus I could not seem to get rid of no matter how hard I tried , it got that bad I eventually reformatted but forgot to back up my steam folder with the important things in like my levels and folders related to the modification.
I still have the source files , So for anyone that wants to continue from scratch I will gladly open source them all the converted audio , models and textures.
Sorry for letting you all down.
