Who here skateboards? I just got back into it a few months ago and I've broken 2 decks already. My new one just came in today so I'm all :neckbeard:. I need to paint it.

I've cleared a 4 stair and I'm looking for a 5 with a good run up to it.

You are a nerd. You are in a niche group of people who all revolve around a single thing, computers and video games. The mainstream audience thinks its stupid and hate it. Most adults think video games are horrible and a lot of lawmakers want violent video games outlawed.

How is that much different from skateboarding?

Nerd.

And how the fuck can you seriously be such a self-righteous prick? Just because you don't like it does not mean that it's bad. I don't like football but I respect people with whatever skill it takes to play it. And if you ever tried skating you would actually see how fucking difficult it is.

Cops are mostly prejudice fucks. If I'm holding a skateboard that must mean "I'm up to no good". Therefore when they get mad at me for something stupid it's kind of hard not to laugh.

Some of them are cool though.

Con
October 23rd, 2009, 07:14 PM
That's still no reason to behave like that. Prejudice or not you should still cooperate kindly with them. If you're respectful and doing nothing wrong then nothing can happen.

Haha sure sure.

The bad vibe people get from skaters is because of the stereotypical attitude that goes along with them. You're kinda showin it as well in this thread too buddy.

I dunno, I just ride. It's relaxing and a hell of a lot faster than walking. I try not to drive as much as I can... so this is a good way to go. Plus I can carry it with me, rather than trusting a bike lock in Orlando... (people found out that bolt cutters can cut more than bolts!)

The only confrontation that I've gotten was from a security guard who asked me to put a shirt on.... it was 90 out and well... yea... shirts aren't desired.

Instead of laughing at him and getting upset about it I just put on a shirt and carried on my way, now I wear a thin shirt to class, then wash up and change before hopping in Maya.

I haven't tried to do much in terms of tricks, I can ollie, but that's about it haha. I want some pads before I actually try to learn anything more than that... messing up your hands when you're using keyboards and mice all day is less than awesome.

Con
October 24th, 2009, 12:05 AM
Like Llama, I would definitely value the transportation aspect of it. Maybe I'll learn some time, there's a lot of people at UVic who use a longboard to get around. It's certainly faster than walking and easier than bringing a bike. Then again, it's one more thing to lug around when you're not using it and do I really need to get to class 3 minutes earlier?

Same at RIT. There are kids all my classes that bring longboards into class. I've thought about roller-blades, 'cause, imo, those are fun, but they'd be impractical.

Inferno
October 24th, 2009, 12:31 AM
I have a lightweight board so I have no problem carrying it. And I do use it to get around when I can't get my car.

But I really enjoy gaping and board slides. Flip tricks are a bit to tedious most of the time. I can popshovit and (sort of) kickflip + varial kickflip. But that's all I've bothered to practice. Jumping stairs and ledges is really fun and even just ollieing up a curb and manualling across is cool.

It's really good excersie as well since I spend most of my day on the computer heh.

edit-

Vert skating. It's amazing. It takes a while to get used to going vertical but its so relaxing to ride a vert.

I climbed on top of Walter Jackson last night. We were free running up on top of the school, then some guys showed up and we thought they were cops. We couldn't' climb back down the easy way since they had parked next to my car. So I had to jump 12 feet to the ground on the back side of the building. My freind nearly broke his ankle.

Turns out they were dealing drugs or something. Heh.

Same thing happened to me once when I was using a shitty rented bike, probably some dick that used it before me loosened the quick-remove nut... I never rented again...

This is where I DH:
ot0W-gpszt8

I've hit the largest versions of everything pictured there (for example the guys in the vid go around the drop at 0:25, pussies)... At 0:50 there's a bridge leading to a 20+ foot drop behind them to the left, god that was fun to hit... Wiped on it once though because I took that be accident going shit fast and slid probably half way down the hill...

Edit: 1:28-1:31 is the drop I'm talking about, except it used to drop straight to dirt after the first lip... None of that extra ramp.

Cortexian

Yea, same deal here, ski lift supremacy.

E: Here's a good helmet cam of the track I would usually do, I would usually veer of more to the left in the trees, more ramps, drops, tables, and teeters in the trees.

I like the freedom you get from skating that's not possible while riding a bike. While you're riding a bike there's a lot of stuff between you and the ground. I like the feeling of just me being free to be open to do whatever, and the fragility of it. It's a lot easier to fall skating, falling and getting back up and hopping back to it is always a big boost to me. (not that I fall often or anything... haha)
