View Full Version : Boats that float?

Hi, I'd like to ask if there is any way for me to make a boat float in one of my maps.

Problem is, the BSP and all are already compiled. The water is simply hovering above the ground as a shader_transparent_water tag, and I'd prefer not to recompile the BSP just to add a boat.

Is there any other way to do it?
Thanks,

change it in the physics tag. I've seen boats in hydrolysis. I don't know why you're talking about bsp compilation, BSP->.Map is such a quick process.

I don't know the exact settings, but try messing with the physics tag, It should give you a boat result.

I believe it is, but you need to add fog, and if that plane did not have the fog property attachment when compiled, it wont work. But im not the best with the boat floating.. I know there's a tutorial floating around somewhere, on this site. search for it.

Kid908,
I was talking about BSP compilation (.gmax - .jms - .scenario_structure_bsp) because I heard before to rename a plane to water!$ and then modify vehicle physics to "Human boat".

I'll try what you said.

higuy, it has a fog plane (slightly modified b30 water fog).

You go into sapien, you find the water's z level in world units, you then open the BSP tag, and where it says vehicle floor you put the water level.

This means that any vehicles, not just boats, will float on the water. So if your map includes other vehicles, then you should probably just skip boats.

Sel, THANK YOU!#@#$@ lol.

I removed all the other vehicles anyway, it would make sense for the "scenario" (no, not the tag) of the map.

**EDIT**: It makes sense, but it's not working. I copied and pasted directly into Guerilla and even raised it, but to no avail. It won't work for me.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thanks,

Only flying vehicles will hit it. Has no effect on driving vehicles.

Oh, well aren't I dumb? lol, thanks. Changed the vehicle type from "Human boat" to "Human plane".

There is another way to do it, but Sel's way works too.

doesn't it just drive on land also though?

Heathen, it does a little - but not enough to where you could get around for more than 5 seconds if there were other players online.
Mainly because the water level is lower than the land level, seeing as it's an island. So the vehicle would be above the force that would push it down (I set the vehicle ceiling and vehicle floor to -0.2) and so it wouldn't move very well on land.

All of the above applies to my map only, maybe some others.
