View Full Version : [WIP] Ascension Firefight

i have been working on this map for about a year now: ascension firefight is as the description says "a firefight taking place on ascension", there are 20 waves plus 5 bonus. featuring halo 3 weapons and an odst hud, halo 2 and 3 style enemies. The beta build has numerous bugs that need to be worked out but overall, if you read the description and play the map as it is intended, you wont notice most of them. This map is a good challenge to all halo players, pro or beginner. I hope to get the final released this fall, hopefully before november. The final will feature 20 complete waves, starting from an easy handfull of grunts, getting increasingly harder, with new enemies each wave. It will also feature unique things not seen in any other firefight so far, such as ariel waves, where you will be facing ranger elites with only your banshee to use. I have been working on this map alone, and built a large part of the scripts myself. If you decide to post in this topic, please tell me if you found any more bugs, and any ideas you think would go well in the map as well as things you think should be changed. To whoever downloaded this map, thanks for trying it and i hoped you enjoyed it.

It's great to see firefight coming to CE. Take out the banshee, though. Firefight is fun because there's nowhere to run and hide.

thank you. if you play through the map, you will see that the banshee has a specific purpose, and only appears when it is time to use it.

it will appear dull because that was a very early beta. if you want, ill make a fresh copy leading up to wave 11 which has everything new.

It's great to see firefight coming to CE. Take out the banshee, though. Firefight is fun because there's nowhere to run and hide.
You should check out Gamma's firefight, the original firefight for CE. :downs:

I just had that discussion today with Corndogman. There are a lot of custom maps out there that could be really cool firefight maps.
I'll check this out later.

I think it's amazing that people are making Firefight for CE, but please for the love of holy god almighty don't implement the firefight HUD unless it actually serves a purpsoe

First off, way too easy.
2nd. mix around spawn spots. The towers would be great spawn spots.
3rd. Your AIs are dumb fucks. Fix that.
--Don't make the elites go in groups. I kill all of them off with 1 nade.
--Make grunts smarter
4th. Weapon errors need to be fixed.
--Carbine can only zoom in. to zoom out i need to reload or switch weapon
--ammo count is horrible. Fix it.
--Weapon Icons are all wrong
5th. Fix physics
--The animated "rings" at the center have horrible physics. AI stand in 1 place and the rings just goes through them.
6th. Make a death plane somewhere. I keep getting knocked off with no way back up. In relation to the 5th, Hunter who get trap in that physic error are propelled to the bottom on the map and are hard to kill.
7th. Aerial attack do not require banshee. It's actually useless. That banshee killed me so many times. I can kill off all the elites with a pistol, shotgun, plasma rifle, and plasma pistol.
8th. use more of the map. too much concentration at the center and the other circle area.
9th. fix the "man cannon." first time i went on it, it over shot me off the map.
10th. fix teleporter
11th. try more specialized covie troops
12th everything seems to hurt the hunter even when im not aiming at the organisms (orange part). I shoot it's armour and it gets hurt. Only thing that doesn't do damage is hitting the shield.
13. put more than 1 gold elite in spawn, or make their shields like brute chieftains in halo 3 (sticky nade doesn't stick to them). I throw 1 nade and it's dead. it's not even a challenging round.
I like the lack of ammo. It makes it more of a challenge. Overall, 6.75/10. It really easy and doesn't have much challenge to win.

the FP arms are absolutely disgusting. I don't know how much you can do about that except use the actual h1/h2/h3 arms

I liked The new waves, You kinda used a bit more of the map with the sniper on the buildings and all, But i say use the starway on the bottom part Make some spawn there or something.

Could you tell us a bit more about the features of your map? Do the waves come in by dropship? Overall: what sets your map apart from other firefight-ish maps out there?

my map is special because there is an originality to the waves, and also, mine is the first to feature arial waves and hopefully banshee dogfights. so now that i am home, im going to polish up a few things then release the new beta.

You know I'd really like to get some pictures in, but your map hates console. It also hates the music you tried to put into it.
Anytime I try a console command or the music. It exceptions, something to fix. Very fun map though, managed to get to the zealot and hunters before they got me.

yes, i played it to wave 5 and called it good, i will be playing the entire thing tonight to try and fix an exception encountered after your odst troops spawn. Also, how is the firefight sound in the beginning?, and someone said the troops speak spanish so im a little confused, since i cant do anything until i get home

firefight isn't an entirely new idea you know. It's been around for years. Just because someone said they've been trying to implement the idea into halo before bungie announce their version of wave fighting, doesn't mean they weren't working on it before bungie announced anything. Cod: WaW had it in the form of Nazi Zombies, GoW2 had it as Horde, L4D's car alarm is a controlled wave fight. Inferno had a firefight like map way before bungie even tried.
In short, he renamed it firefight after bungie's announcement.
Oh I forgot to add that the visor outline is very very annoying. make it less distinctive.

It;s jut he made it sound like he was basing his firefight of way bungie implemented their, im well aware survival mode is not new infact marathon had it if i remember correctly.
But when someone says theyve been working on a mode specificly named after a mode not known untill 6 months ago then it is going to raise an eyebrow or two.

Lol these guys.
I've been continually stopping myself from making a firefight map. It's so tempting but I don't have the time to do one.
And if I did one it would be elaborate as fuck.

Nuts.map. That shit was so fun to make.
It actually was conceived at a LAN party. My freind showed me the nut.wad from doom and I was like I CAN FUCKING DO THAT AND BETTER!
