I did a quick search for this on these forums and nothing came up so:

For all you other itouch/iphone users out there, what do you use to convert your videos (say, divx/xvid based) to mp4 videos for viewing on your device? Preferably something that is free (+ not shareware). If you have any suggested settings for the qualities to use when converting that would be great too

I used to have this crummy program back before my Windows went kaput but I didn't save the installer and forget the name. So rather than scoure the internet for one, I was hoping to get some suggestions from users whom I trust more than google search results.

Windows or Mac based ones are fine. +rep for helpful posts

WinAVI. I could up the full version if you want it. Converts pretty much any video format (including obscure ones) to .mp4 with a couple clicks.

Those might work. They're both free, the first one works on windows and mac.

I just use total media one, the program I use to capture video for my PVR. But I doubt you want to buy a $200 pvr just for the software.

I use Avidemux. Lets you import videos and set resize options and stuff. Just find the right codec and container and save it.

That came to my mind too. But in all seriousness it is the most well rounded video ripping/ converting program that is also free that I have ever seen.
