View Full Version : Halo PC/CE 1.09 Compatibility Patch Released!
Cortexian
November 3rd, 2009, 05:14 AM
I posted this in the News as well, awaiting approval.
The final patches for PC and CE 1.09 are ready and available for download. This is the same build you've had for a few weeks if you've been following the thread, only the installer-wrapper is added. If people report success installing these patches, they will go up for auto-update soon, which should help unify the playerbase on the new version.
This is also the first time we've added a "Bungie, LLC" digital signature to anything (instead of going through the Microsoft internal tool for doing that) so let me know if you see anything wrong there.
http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_109.exe (http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_109.exe)
http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_ce109.e xe (http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/patch_ce109.exe)
Remember to re-apply the instructions in the Anisotropic Filtering thread if you did before the patch, as this config.txt will overwrite your changes. If you don't know what I mean, you don't have to worry about it.
Original Post (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=38613159)
And the details on what sparked this update:
Hi all,
Last night I decided to sit down and fix the problem where 64-bit machines with >4GB of RAM complained that you have 0 RAM. That was easy. Then when I tried to test the fix, I discovered the compat problem with the recent IE security fixes, and saw the threads here suggesting that people uninstall them.
That's no good, right?
So I put together a fix for that, too. I'd like you guys to try it out on your various systems and make sure that (a) it fixes those problems, if you had them , and (b) doesn't cause any new ones.
NOTE!!!!!!
This will *not* have any impact on gameplay. All the changes are finished happening before the MGS logo movie even plays! Every time there's a patch, there are always a few people whose internet connections happen to get flaky that day, and they assume there's a correlation. This patch won't change the game. It's your imagination. Really.
This patch is only for HaloPC, not for CE yet. If a little time passes and no one can convince me that the patch is buggy, I'll port the changes over to CE and release both.
This version will network with 1.08 in the same game, it doesn't break compat.
Try it out, reinstall your missing IE patches, and post your results here. If anyone is still running Win98SE (gasp!) let me know if it works as well as previous versions.
Thanks!

Have fun playing on bad servers.
For now though it won't be working anyways. If you install the posted 1.09 patch and try to get a server list by choosing "Multiplayer" and then "Internet" you get stuck at the "update required" screen and told to download the available patch, which happens to be version 1.08... I'm sure this will get sorted out quickly though.
My server has been updated to version 1.09 and I was able to connect to it via Direct IP, however I will be downgrading it after this post until the above mentioned issue is fixed.

Sticking with 1.08.
It doesn't break compatibility with 1.08, there will be no "bad servers".

Its going to hit the auto-update system soon, you won't have a choice to play it or not. The main reason it was made is to fix the issue with IE patches that break the game, not just the 64-bit compatibility issue.
Edit - Speak of the devil:
Autoupdates are up for PC, CE. And I believe the Mac patch is available too.
CE should let you play online now.
Please start spreading the word on community sites that everyone should update to the latest dediscated servers. (the file is bundled with the client install package; when you update your client, the haloded.exe will be in that directory.)

An update for an IE update bug which was caused from adding proper 64-bit support is not enough justification for allocating time from my personal time to perform an update. If OS was being used and/or required for some larger *mods* then there would be usable justification. However, since this update doesn't address any vulnerability issues or the like, you can easily do a incognito version change. After all, during testing I had Yelo builds changing the game version to 1.09 (long before this update came about).
The gov't and military likes to waste funds and resources on poor or skewed assessments, but my free time is more valuable than the piss-poor USD, so I won't spend it where it can't be properly justified.

If you mean you tried version changer with the exact, matching build, then I'm stumped.

Having not played CE in a while, and because I played it on an older, "traditional" PC setup, I find it funny how much people rely on hacks to play the game.
Why exactly can't people just cut their losses and just update to 1.09 without things like OS, sightjacker, FOV, and aimbots? Everyone bitches incessantly about creating splits in the community, yet if everyone would just suck it up for a while until people figure out the new offsets, we wouldn't be having this problem of people staying behind on older versions and trying to circumvent the build check so they can use their precious hacks. The core functionality of the game is not broken even in the slightest from what I understand, it's not like only certain maps will work with v1.08 or anything.

Wow. Been a while since I posted here. Anyway, so I'm having problems with this new patch. Normally I run Windows Media Player, and the Dev client. After the update installed I restarted the game, and then got an exception. So I closed all other non vital programs, and I still got an exception.
Does this update cause exceptions? Because if so, it's not a very fun update. I can't even get into a server before I get an exception.

The reason pbear, is because people dont want to update the apps. OS is unlikely to get updated, no one can be bothered to update the addresses, because whos to say in a month, 1.1 one be released as mandatory? rec0 won't work, its doubtful anyone will want to update it.
