Disk Drive not working.

I have a laptop, and I'm trying to copy data onto a blank disc, but my disk drive is just not working at all. It doesn't open when I press the eject button, nor when I right click the drive in My Computer and click Eject. I tried forcing it to open by sticking a paper clip in the small hole, and it opened. After putting the blank disc on the tray and closing it, my computer won't read the disc. (Meaning it still says that there's nothing in the disk drive.) I rarely use my disk drive, if only to do what I'm trying to do now. Could it have just died from prolonged non-usage? The last time I used it was probably at least 3-4 months ago.

Wait, is there still an icon for the drive in My Computer or has it completely disappeared?

The icon is there, as I said I tried right-clicking it and clicking Eject, which does nothing. It's not opening, and if I force it to open and put a disc on the tray, it doesn't read it.
