So I was looking for a computer that was cheap and can run todays games like Gears of war, Crysis and Farcry2, Left4Dead 1 and 2 and many more. I ran into the Chimera LX2 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4776265&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE). It's a $1,600 computer.

Specs
Intel Core i7 920 2.66 GHz Processor
MSI X58 Pro Motherboard
2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 896MB
12GB High-Speed DDR3-1333 Memory
1TB Serial-ATA-II Hard Drive
22x DL DVD+/-RW Drive
Onboard Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000
NZXT Guardian Inferno Gaming Chassis
800 Watt Power Supply
iBUYPOWER USB Deluxe Keyboard/Mouse

So would this be a good investment? I need something that can run Crysis on full setting with good fps or anyother games.

Ya, because my parents like the idea of buying a shit load of computer parts instead of giving me the all in one package for christmas. :allears:

it's unfathomably better to build your own

You're getting a $1600 christmas present?
I fucking hate you.

PopeAK49
November 9th, 2009, 10:29 PM
It's only one present from probably my step dad. My mom will be getting my a tatoo and my NYJ leather coat. My real dad will probably get me a new xbox 360.

See, having your parents split up is not a bad thing. You get more presents!

You see, if you actually took an hour to learn how the stuff is put together, you wouldn't have to spend hundreds more on a pre-configured PC to get your fix. Also, what are you going to do with 12GB of 1333Mhz RAM? Not even Freelancer dares venture into that useless territory.

These parts were off the top of my head and without a keyboard/mouse and case. But It's all the more reason to do it yourself.

Edit: Also, you may find some of these parts to be overkill? and due to building it yourself, you can go grab a case that looks and works for you WAY better.

No, I do not, but I made a thread looking for a semipowerful, yet not too too expensive computer. You jsut chose this computer for me. That is unless you find out its crap :/

It's a good system and if you don't care that you could save hundreds of dollars by building it yourself, and eliminate any chance of OS tampering, I'd say go for it. 12GB of memory is extremely useless at this point in time for a desktop, and it's extremely easy to build a PC once you have all the correct parts.

Or unless you want to be cool like the rest of us and build a more epic rig for less money...:saggy:.

I voted yes for convenience sake, but you could build it for less.

We are not rich....Well maybe my step dad is since he was former commissioner of corrections. :haw:

I do know how to put a computer togeather. Just my parents hate it when I configure crap inside my computer. They don't trust me putting one togeather because they think I'll fuck up and ruin it. :smith:

how old are you, 12?

if you're over that, tell them to grow up and get over the fact they don't know how shit works, and they cant keep up intelectually.

build your own.

edit: also, fuck you, i don't even have enough money to buy a goddamn TREE this christmas, let alone any presents.

Seriously? 12 gigs of ram? That is amazingly unnecessary.

You can get WAY more for a computer for less of the price.

If that's not worth it, tell me a pre-built $1600 comp is.

Prebuilts aren't worth it, unless you're paying for real workmanship and labor (buy this) (http://www.murderbox.com/home.html).

Now that's dedication. Maybe you should go into that kind of stuff, Freelancer.

I didn't expect so many computer services around town up here. I think I'll look around for a job that will let you in at the age of 17. I could probably invest in buying parts to build a computer with that kind of job. I love computers a lot, and I constantly take my computer apart to clean it and put it all back togeather without my parents knowing. I know how to build a computer. It's just my parents don't trust me enough to put a computer togeather. I always had this gift of putting things togeather perfectly really fast, but they seem to have forgot that.

I don't care what job I'm offered for the buisness. It would be nice if they let you build or repair computers at the age of 17, although I doubt it.

You'll be lucky to get a volunteer/unpaid internship position in a company that builds or handles computer hardware at that age. I looked all around my city for jobs like that, most require something like A+ certification or computer related post-secondary education.
