View Full Version : Do your eyes bleed at night?

If, like me, you have a habit of being on your computer much later than you should be, you'll probably have experienced the horrible eye strain that comes with your nice shiny, high contrast screen.

Enter F.lux (http://stereopsis.com/flux/). Basically, it changes the colour "temperature" of your screen to be warmer or cooler throughout the day. While the sun's up your screen will look pretty normal, but when it sets the screen will slowly transition to a reddish tinge. The site probably explains it better than me shut up.

Has had a positive effect on my eyes from my 24-hour experience.

In case you missed that link:

Of course, if you rely on your computer for lots of image editing this isn't for you, though it does have a button to disable itself for an hour if you're not going to spend too long doing whatever.

Holy crap I'm not used to this orange. I do like how he changed the cursor's colors though.

No, not really, it just appears that way because your eyes adjusted to the red tint.

I turned down how much it changes the color, but it still is a big change. Feels much better on the eyes.

You can disable it for hour long periods if you are playing video games or editing images (or something else that requires the screen to not have a shade of yellow over it).

After several hours of studying for a final tomorrow, I must say, this program really has saved my eyes. I love it. I tweaked it so that it matches the color cast of my dorm lights.

Weird, I've never had this problem.

Then again I use my computer exclusively at night with the light on, so I probably set the screen dimmer than you all do.

I'm not noticing anything in games, I think it's disabled if you're running a fullscreen app.

My eyes never pain during computer viewing, and I'd rather keep all my screen colors proper thank you very much!

i usually keep a bottle of alives next to my computer. sometimes when im playing something i start to have trouble focusing on the screen without my retinas screaming at me. this also sometimes happens with papers and books though. i usually just take 2 alives and wait about 5 minutes. would this app help with that problem?

I applaud him for rezzing this thread. I almost always jump on the laptop first thing in the morning and get blinded even with brightness set to low. I forgot to install Flux on this PC too.

Install this on the computer of a graphic designer you hate. Leave 6 feet of rope nearby. Profit. (Yeah yeah -- terrible joke, I know)

I started using it. All you have to do is right click the sys tray icon and you can disable it for an hour.
