Malwarebytes is free to remove malware from your pc (its very good at what it does), you can buy it for realtime protection (i have no idea how good it is at stopping malware entering your system)

I use Microsoft Security Essentials... it works well for being free...
Though the best antivirus you can have is updating Windows, having a properly configured router (even if you only have 1 PC on the net), and not being a dumbass.
In fact if you DON'T do those three things but you DO have an antivirus program... you will likely still get infected with a virus.

Trojan Remover (http://www.simplysup.com/)
Trojan Remover aids in the removal of Malware - Trojan Horses, Worms, Adware, Spyware - when standard anti-virus software either fails to detect them or fails to effectively eliminate them. Standard antivirus programs are good at detecting this Malware, but not always good at effectively removing it.
Doesn't actually prevent them but, does a pretty good job at removing and restoring settings the infection changed.
For a Anti Virus ESET Smart Security (http://www.eset.com/smartsecurity/) has never failed on me.

I used to use Avast, which was perfectly fine, but I recently switched to Panda Cloud Antivirus, just to try it out. So far, so good, it's a very lightweight program.

People still use anti-virus software?Ironically I just started using it. Security Essentials is basically free (both in resources and cost) so why not? If it never does anything... it still never hurt anything.
But yeah -- for the last 7 years I didn't use Antivirus.

I've been using AVG Free for years and have yet to get a virus that it hasn't detected and destroyed.
Though I rarely even get infected files.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is the way to go.
also by a simple reg edit you can get make the trial last forever.
ok so the more than average user really wouldn't need one (personally i wouldnt need an anti virus) but it never hurts to be extra cautious.
plus KIS 2010 also lets you know when a program is using a port connection to do something and gives you the option to send the info yes or no...
so like a program that logs how many times it's been uses can block the connection so the info isn't sent but you can still use the program.
i like that part.

This is a bad question to ask.
Mainly because everybody uses something different and has a strong opinion on what they use and how much it works.
But w/e.
I use:
Avast Home Edition. I use it primarily for it's realtime protection.
Malwarebytes. For whatever Avast doesn't find.
Spybot Search and Destory. Incase Malwarebtes fails to find it.
Windows Defender. I use it if everything else fails. (I usually only use this if I know there is a virus on my computer.)
Superantispyware. My absolute last resort. If this doesn't find it then I am truly fucked unless I find the virus myself.

Visit only trusted sites with firefox running ad-block plus, with the proper ad list set in its settings. If you still manage to get a virus, malwarebytes' is pretty reliable. Over the last 4 years, I've only gotten 2 infections, both of which were from sites that I frequented and thought I trusted, but I'm positive that one of those instances was because of the ads on the site, hence ad-block. It'll save you bandwidth usage, and you no longer have to see those annoying minigames or hear those random sounds.

I'd reccomend all programs I posted.
I try my best to avoid programs that include toolbars or extra shit in my browsers.
