Is it just me or is there a hint of Halo in this with a dash of a few other games tossed in?

I'm seeing more Starcraft (post-nuclear Korhal specifically) than anything else. But yes, a fucking Cortana moment clone ("It was horrid every single time in H3, but I'm sure it'll be great in our game!") and some of Gears' grit and color are definitely apparent, at least from that review's graphics.

Most of the weapons use common models, and animations, the differences are mainly colour and stats.
Also this belongs in tech talk.

Actually, it's more base structures that are common. Well, common-ish. There are multiple manufacturing companies in the game, and each company's guns look different, and have their own modular pieces that are randomized to a degree, and procedurally applied, as far as I can tell. Each gun looks fresh, you'll never see two whose models look identical, but color swapped.
tl;dr, you'll recognize pieces of guns, but the gun models themselves are procedurally generated out of parts more or less specific to each manufacturing company.
Animating is done on a per-weapon-type basis. The series' bolt action type sniper rifles, for example all have revolver chambers, regardless of company, and reload the same way, at different speeds. The magazine-fed sniper rifles all animate the same as each other as well. This doesn't mean they don't all look convincingly different.
Lastly, this is an AMAZING game. Get it.

Buttlands owns. Gearbox made a really great game (and made ps3 owners eat shit :neckbeard: )
Only big issue it has is little replay value once you beat game+ unless you take it online with others. If you guys in the modacity group want to play some time we could ~

There's a second playthrough that makes it more fun. Also accompanying a low level player on their first playthrough is lots of fun. Everything gibs with my weapons. lol.

This game is rather awesome, half my group has it and on days where we have off from working on our game we usually get together at someone's house and LAN it up.
Lots of good times to be had with this one.

Whats better, Borderlands or Fallout 3?
Ive played like 5 mins of borderlands, but the douches before me basically killed all the AI and picked up noob guns. So I just walked around aimlessly for minutes.
I have yet to play fallout 3, so I dont know which to buy, then again I dont like fallout 3 art style =\.

I agree they made a great game. However, I'm not entirely clear on how I've eaten shit by having the PS3 version. I'm playin' it with friends and having a blast (quite literally)!
Anyhow, I also have yet to find two guns that are 100% exactly alike except for colour and stats; of course, this doesn't apply to certain guns that certain bosses drop exactly the same every time. Suffice it to say that I haven't gotten bored of the selection of weapons yet and it is unlikely that I will for awhile yet.
A buddy of mine bought the game on release day and kept badgering me to get it, and when I got it a couple days later, he said he'd sold it for another game 'cause he'd beat it twice in three sittings and found it boring. As a result, I'm going through the game with other friends in small amounts at a time, so maybe that's why I haven't been bored of the weapons yet.

depends on how you want to play, borderlands is more of a straight up shooter, fallout3 is just oblivion with guns. (Assuming you played oblivion)

I'm not a massive RPG nut, I havent played oblivion lol. I'm thinking Borderlands is more suited to me, due to the more FPS style.
Then again, I'm only playing SP (perhaps LAN co-op if it has it)

borderlands is practically made for co-op, whereas oblivion with guns is purely single player, and the same damn thing 50000 times over, which feels repetitive fast.

Borderlands has a lot of repetition as well, but in terms of the shooter and co-op mechanics... what it does, it does well. Only thing is a lack of options for loot sharing; it's practically a free-for-all to grab the loot.
