Ok, well I already have my DSL modem/wireless and ethernet router (2-in-1, sweet :iamafag:) from verzion here but now the phone line coming into my house has to be activated which will be done December 1st.

Now here is a question, I have the 1.5 Mbps down/385 Kbps up plan and wondering if that would give me some lag playing Halo CE, Xbox Live, or even Halo 3. I did notice this isn't really the best speeds but if nobody but me is using the internet in my house would I get no/barely any lag?

My biggest concern is when I am playing Halo CE. Would my average ping go any higher than 300 (when playing on a server within 700 miles of I live)?

If you need to know I live near Stroudsburg, PA (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=stroudsburg,+pa&sll=40.986761,-75.194625&sspn=0.031229,0.083685&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Stroudsburg,+Monroe,+Pennsylvania&z=14 just if you don't know where that is). dun be stalkin meh

It may have just been my connection, but when I used to have Verizon it really wasn't that great. I had that same or similar plan and if my sister was playing on live at the same time I was on the computer or downloading a large file, the speeds would jump around. It usually never stuck very high, but on average when doing both things it ended up around 200~250 ping in CE with spikes up to 900 or so.

Yeah, I know that may happen but if I'm just alone and using Live or CE online, the ping is 150 or under, right?

I wouldn't post that... You may end up with a sign in your lawn fairly soon...

Don't worry, I posted a lot less information than you, and they still found me.

And the method isn't even that hard now that I know what they did.

Jesus man, do you live in the Swiss Alps or something? Fuck... :smith:

Wait Hughes net... there's your problem. Fucking 500-1000ms latency

I've had it for five years now, and now that I see DSL is here; screw Hughes.

There are many things that I can't do with this bullshit satellite.
Rare chance that FileFront will let me download anything.
My login session with a wiki will end just after signing in.
Cannot stream live videos.
If I download over 375MB in one day, my DL speed goes down to 1kb/sec or less for 24 hours.
Cannot play Xbox Live without super lag. Sometimes cannot sign in at all.
Will get 900 - 1800 pings in CE.
Can't order alot of things from online.
My IP says its from like Kansas on some days then some other days it's in Illinois or whatever so my IP rotates weekly (<< this is the only good thing so nobody knows where I live)
Cannot get a customer service rep from in this country.
I'm glad this crap will be over, really.

Hughes Net is bullshit, I'm suprised you paid like, what, $150+/mo for that bullshit. Dial-up's better in my opinion, atleast it's reliable.

Actually I was paying more like $80/mo for the plan I had (but still a lot of money for crap) but now I will be paying $30 - $40/mo.

At one many times I was considering dial-up, but I didn't have a phone line set-up, I don't use a home phone; cell phone is win.

Well hell even a cellphone provider would have been a better internet solution than Hughes Net.

Man you got the shaft long and hard...

I did do that for a day... Plugged in my cell to my computer and let it share internet, and then played on CE. My ping ranged from 175 into the 400s. I forgot my about my data plan (almost poor at the time lol) and well, I had a bill over $75 of what it was supposed to be.

I had the 768kb/s down plan from Verizon until relatively recently, and it worked fine for playing Halo CE multiplayer even sharing the connection with three other computers.

Now that I have the 7mb/s plan, it's even better. :realsmug:

Oh wow you had a worse plan than I did
As long as I get <300 pings I'm ok

If it's over 20Mbps then I suppose I may move to NYC :iamafag:

I get 28mbits/second or so on comcast

BloodyJabs
November 27th, 2009, 09:37 PM
Yeah, I don't get Comcast where I live.
Would've gotten the Cable for where I live which is called BlueRidge Digital Cable, but apparently 6 years ago my parents couldn't afford it and switched everything to Satellite, leaving an unpaid almost $1k bill. So two months ago I called BRDC and asked for their highest internet plan (15Mbps Down/2Mbps up) and they said I can get it. Then I wait a couple minutes and they say I can't get it because of the unpaid bill, and I'm really not going to pay about $1k.

Same thing actually happened with Verizon, but I finally got that paid off, so now I went for that. I'm probably going to see how this goes, and then I may go for the 7Mbps down and the ??? (forgot) Mbps up plan.
