Wow... Hope he'll be ok:

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tiger Woods has been seriously injured in a car wreck in Florida, authorities said Friday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods hit a fire hydrant and a tree as he pulled out of his driveway early Friday in his 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.

Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital. His condition was not immediately known, though the news release said his injuries were serious.
The airbags in the car did not deploy, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel. The newspaper said that airbags typically do not deploy if a vehicle is traveling less than 33 miles per hour.

The highway patrol says the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

The Orange County Fire Rescue received a call about the accident at 2:28 a.m. ET. The Florida Highway Patrol did not report it until 2 p.m. ET.

Airbags dont deploy under 33mph? I thought airbags deployed due to amount of force applied to car, NOT how fast it was going. Because said your stationary, and a car hits your car hard, they should deploy.

Most cars do this, perhaps he was driving a shitty one that only deployed them over 33mph?

I'm pretty sure it deploys by force, that much is certain. I'm sure hes saying that anything under 33 mph doesnt have enoguh FORCE to deploy the airbags. I dont think the computer in the car is thinking "okay, you're going 32 mph, nah im not going to deploy the airbags shut the fuck you"

Yahoo news has the story, apparently he's already out of the hospital. I read the title and tought: "Woods injured? What did a helicopter crash into a forest?". Needless to say I was pretty confused.

Yeah, must be a pretty shitty car.

Yup, those look like cars whose designers probably thought "what could possibly go wrong under 33mph that would require the airbags be deployed, lets lock out that feature"!

Is it bad that I came into this thread expecting some witty thread about motorists crashing and destroying the woods (aka trees) near the motorways?

I am suspicious though. What was he doing leaving that early in the morning? They said alcohol was not a factor, but how the hell did he manage to both hit a hydrant AND a tree at such low speed (under 30 MPH) and still sustain enough injury to pass out?

He might not have been drunk, but it certainly sounds as if he was under the influence of something.

Well, unconfirmed, seeing as I am reading this on Perez Hilton... but here's what he's just posted:

It seems the facial lacerations that Tiger Woods' supposedly suffered as a result of his car accident on Friday, were actually inflicted by his wife.

While being confronted by his wife, Elin Nordegren, about his alleged affair, it got majorly heated to the point that she scratched up his face. He headed to escape in his SUV, but Elin followed him with a golf club and struck the car several times.

Tiger thought the vehicle was stopped, but he became distracted to which the car hit a fire hydrant and tree! It was also reported that Woods was talking pain medication for an injury, which may have added to his "distractions."

Real slick!
