My pop made it while he was in Papua New Guinea in WWII, the ring is made out of a nut and the coloured 'stones' are actually bits of coloured plastic (translucent red and opaque white) from toothbrush handles. There are 2 smaller red triangles on the side, and the big red/white one in the middle is his regiment's insignia.
:3
Sorry for the grainy pic, my camera's batteries are dead and there is not ONE fucking AA to be found in this house http://sa.tweek.us/emots/images/emot-argh.gif

What tools did he use to chisel the designs and bore the hole for the plastic?
Edit: Wait a minute, how old is your father? :confused2:

Father = dad
Maternal grandfather = pop
Paternal grandfather = grandpa
It's what I've been calling him since I was a kid, to avoid confusion mainly and also because mum always called him pop.
As for what tools he used, I have no idea, but it can't have been many.
