View Full Version : HALO 1.09 CE (personal dedis ping not showing)

Just something that's been bugging me, ever since the patch my server isn't showing a ping on the Halo list.

I've noticed that with everyone who has set up a dedicated server on a home server or computer a ping doesn't show up, even if all the correct ports are open.

Does anyone know what's causing this or have a fix for it?

Thanks

This was happening on my server for awhile, fixed itself after a restart one day.

i've always noticed this on many of the home-servers...erred on the side of caution and bought one from gameservers.

Happens on CE and PC deds, started about 6 weeks ago.. already before the update. If you watch your network-traffic it's a lot less than before as well. I doubt it's just home servers though. Maybe someone messed the gamespy masterserver up :P

it's been like that for at least two years, it's only the home servers i've ever seen that have no ping

^^This

I've known of a lot of home dedis since the time I started playing that never did have a ping shown. Most people just ignore it.

Then their firewall/router is configured wrong for hosting a halo ded, pings can show up just fine for home-deds as well.

Found this on bungie.net:

For Halo:
80 (Transmission Control Protocol [TCP]) - Halo looks to see if there is a Halo update available. If there is an update, Halo downloads the update through this port.
2302 (User Datagram Protocol [UDP]) - the game host listens on this port.
2303 (UDP) - the game client connects to the game host through this port.

For Gamespy and Arcade Application:
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

May or may not be useful.

How do you think that dedi's check the CD-Keys from people that join to make sure it's not already in use? It has a port just for that.

That would be outgoing if it's verified with the master server anyway, no need for an open forwarded port. Either way, it never was a problem till a couple of weeks ago; just 1 port forwarded and everything worked fine but all of a sudden things changed. Must be gamespy.

so your saying i have to port forward EVERY one of those ports...

Default is 2302 but you can change it using the -port command line switch.

turn off all your firewall shit and port 80, 2302, and 2303

Don't turn off your firewall, one of those port I listed I think has to do with the server ping on the gamespy list, if not I don't know then.

You could try that for a short period and put your server PC in the DMZ and check again.. i doubt it'll have a ping.

Interesting, I never had this problem with my home dedicated server... It only ever happened with my GameServers.com server for a week or so.

Anyone tried this yet? When i put a Halo PC server up, turn off firewalls and put that PC in the DMZ ping still aint showing..

If it's in DMZ then it's most likely a gamespy issue.

supersniper

yeah guaranteed.
DMZ allows all ports opened through that given computer
and if it's still not getting pinged then it's a gamespy issue like free said.

I can ping my server through xfire and several other applications. It's only on the list that it doesn't show the ping - also it takes like 5 minutes to update the player numbers, whereas on dedis it'll update every second if you check it (talking about on the list still)

I just found out that pings don't use ports, so firewalls wouldn't have an impact.

[DMZ should only be used for testing, shouldn't leave your computer that way - extremely vulnerable to all sorts of worms and attacks.]

I guess it's just a gamespy issue :/

I paged them some time ago already about this because this started before the last update already, of course they tell you it can't be them and instead contact the game company/creator :P

Must be gamespy though.
