Hey guys I'm writing a 6-page essay and currently I'm stuck at 4 and half pages...

Since a bunch of us go to college here I thought I would come to you for some tips and tricks for dragging length out of a research paper!

The Teacher is a Times New Roman 12-point font Nazi, so changing that won't help much, if at all.

Go into word.

Ctrl-F
Replace tab
Put a period in the find what box
Click the more button
Go to format
Change font size to 14
Put a period in the replace with box
Click the replace all button

You now have periods that look exactly like size 12, but space like size 14.

E: You can do this with all punctuation, though I'm not sure how noticeable it would be.

Nice one. Managed to lengthen it by roughly 3-4 lines. Thanks!

Right now I'm digging through my sources for extra quotes to add some nice commentary to the essay. I might as well learn these tactics before they REALLY matter.

Make the margins on left and right 1.1" instead of 1". They won't notice, and you'll get a few more lines out of it. If you do 1.25" on each side though, they will notice. :saddowns:

Okay I've managed to push the essay to about halfway into Page Five with all of the above! Almost there!

I need a few more techniques to add content without actually adding any true content and I'll call it good.

If you aren't already restating your thesis, tying your topic sentences to your thesis, and your points to your topic sentences then do so. It not only adds words, but shows the marker than every one of your points are relevant and necessary.

I tried that with a self portrait for my drawing class. I colored my paper black and told my professor that I drew myself with the lights off :downs:

get rid of all your contractions, and double space after each sentence

Double spacing works wonders.

Normally college papers require double spacing. At least my college does. Good to hear you finished your paper. :)

Here's a hint, expand on your ideas. Typical college papers are 12pt, double spaced, and a legible font. Ive done 10 essays (mostly 6 pages, 3 10 pages)so far this semester each only taking about an hour. Whats your prompts? What kind of essay is it? What Kind of research have you done, if any? Did you make an outline? If its on a book, did you actually read the book? Is the essay due tomorrow? If so, why did you wait til now to do it? To be honest, any intelligent teacher knows all the tricks to make your essay appear longer. You might as well take the time to do it correctly. In my experience, bull shitting a paper just sets you up for bad habits in the future. If you plan on going to college, you are going to have to change your approach because I guarantee you a professor will spot it and mark you down. I suggest you start now.

I agree with Paladin. It's far better to insert something of substance instead of artificially lengthening it, and there's a dick joke in there somewhere; in all seriousness however, I would certainly recommend you try adding more content to your essay to support your case, rather than looking for the easy way out. It's very true that bad habits stick with you and there's no better time than the present to get rid of them.

Trust me, I added content. But the teacher quite literally said 'The only reason we're doing this is because the school is making us.', among other things that hinted she won't be reading it.

It's not a good enough reason for me to trudge through all that shit on a school paper that's just going to be put on the bottom of a shit pile
