You know, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress are all well and good, but,
HL2 Episode 2 Spoiler:
YOU KILLED ELI FUCKING VANCE AND THEN LEFT US HANGING NOW LET US SEE THE GODDAMN CONCLUSION TO THE GODDAMN STORY.
FUCK.
tl;dr: Valve should focus on appeasing those select few fans with attention spans long enough to follow a story arc instead of selling out by making hugely popular games.
still tl;dr: WHERE THE FUCK IS EPISODE 3

Don't worry, they probably are releasing Team Fortress 3 next
It's just Team Fortress 2 with all the custom maps and class updates, but also on X360 and has some new hats

I don't get why people say Half life has a great story line. To be honest its kind of confusing shit. The only thing I find of real interest is the mystery of the G-Man. I don't think gordon is a very good hero tbh.

It's great becuase its expansive, and thats why its confusing. It's not hard to really figure out though.

It's not great but it's good and people say it's great because it pulls you into the world like few other games do. Yes I'd honestly prefer it if gordon opend his mouth once in a while to express some emotion but it still makes you feel like you're there (and infuriates you that you can't slapabitch whenever alyx is on-screen).

Don't worry, they are putting alot of work into EP. 3!!! Like this amazing feature called
SIGN LANGUAGE!!! (http://kotaku.com/5332698/valve-studying-sign-language-for-deaf-half+life-character)
Fucking awesome that they make us wait for these features right?

I think it's great that they're experimenting with signing and adding it to future games. Valve already has colour blind mode for some of their games.

While I love that Valve is experimenting with new technologies and simultaneously catering to crowds that often get left out of various aspects of gaming, I have to say they're doing it all wrong.
Half Life 2 episodes: episodic. As in rapid releases on the same engine. As in, save your tinkering for the next engine, and finish the goddamn storyline you've started. They could have finished episodes 1 through 3 on virtually the same engine as Half Life 2 years ago, and then worked in secret on Half Life 3 which when finally announced would have blown us away with all its new features.
I understand that Valve has a very user-centric development process which means they test a few new technologies at a time by releasing them and seeing the reaction, but imho they're taking this to the illogical extreme by insisting on interrupting their episodic releases in order to stick their new technologies into them as soon as they have the idea.
Compare this to Greeble and Bridge CE. Stop adding new features and just release the first release! Maybe that's why I find it so appealing to work at Valve. We both suffer from paralyzing feature creep.

See, when I think of Half Life, I don't actually think of Gordon. I love those games because it creates a vacuum where how other characters interact with you dictates who you are, not the person himself. I can understand wanting to have more character development, but I actually enjoy it. It makes me feel like I can place more of my emotions into the game. In Halo, I feel like I'm playing as someone, so sometimes I don't feel as personally connected.

Gordon is really a pretty lame Garry Sue. He shouldn't be good at combat but he rapes everything in this universe, he never says a peep but everyone loves him, there is always, always a way to push forward no matter the odds, etc.
Halflife games are awesome, just not because of Dr Freeman.

Seriously?
The chief is really straightforward and has a beyond stereotypical hero personality.

I found the Rooky in ODST more fascinating than the Chief. Also I have to agree with Silicon. You don't think much of Gordon, other than you know a touch of his back story. The rest is putting you in the drivers seat and letting you interact with the characters. But as for myself, I pretty much think that Gordon is awesome. Don't know for sure why though.

Gordon by himself is not interesting. What makes him interesting is how you interact with the world through him. He doesn't NEED to talk, because he is only how you use him to interact with the characters.

Honestly, Chief does not fascinate me in the slightest. Since Halo 1 I kept getting the feeling "Man who's this random guy I'm playing as"

Yeah but the chief also never gets the chick. [not that anyone would want a annoying as hell dwarf stuck in his head who would probably know hes about to cheat before he would]
The chief is more tool of destruction than hero, he doe's what he doe's because he is ordered to, in halo 1 theres a point where he has no orders and needed cortana to tell him what to do.

At least the chief is ment to be a soldier unlike gordon.

What kind of suit is bomb proof and uses shields?
EX12693
December 15th, 2009, 07:34 PM
A shielded, bomb-proof hazard suit. Used in areas where resonance cascades and dimensional rifts are possible. Even then, Gordon must have hated the suit. He lost the helmet.
Rob Oplawar
December 15th, 2009, 10:06 PM
The helmet looked totally gay anyway. If I were Gordon I would have thought "gee, I'm in the midst of an alien invasion. On the one hand, I could really use armor over my head to protect myself from those headcrab things. On the other hand, this is my one chance to look totally badass! I think my decision is clear."

More like anti-christ, Masterchief destroyed the ark and defeated the flood as well as destroyed a halo or two.
