Three other students and I made this flash game over the past few weeks. I came up with the game idea and did the art, then we had an AS3 programmer, a flash guy, and our fourth did the sound. There are a few known bugs, but I think it turned out pretty well. We didn't have time to put the controls into the how to play screen and they're instead on the main menu. Don't ask me why there's fossil fuels on asteroids, our flash guy wrote all that :\

When you start the first level you need to click the game again to be able to move.

Haha nice work sir, nice simple fun game :P
I got 4200 points.
It'd be cool if you made the background animated somehow though, right now it's far too static. Or if after a few levels you started bringing in a few "space clouds" lol something to obscure vision or something like that to add a different gameplay mechanic.
That being said, I only played to level 4, didn't really seem to change anything other than maybe your quota between levels? *shrug* I had fun with it.

I made some other backgrounds that would cycle throughout the levels but our poor programmer spent so much time debugging that adding aesthetic features became unimportant. However, we initially decided against a moving background lest it become distracting. We wanted the movement of the asteroids to catch your eye and make it easier to track them all. Maybe those space clouds you suggested could act as distractions in higher levels. I don't remember exactly, but I think max asteroid speed, number, pirate probability, time, and quota change each level. There may be more. Thanks for the ideas, I'll keep it in mind in the future.

so I played some more.
I dislike them, they made me fail.
If you stay on the "You're Fired" screen for a short while it starts beeping btw... is that supposed to happen?

I agree, I think they steal funds far too quickly. The beeping bug is known.
