If I understand correctly, what matters is which class you obtain more kills with, not how many you obtain. All I really need to do is get one Soldier kill and just not use the Demoman, which is what I do anyways.

The problem isn't the influx of rocket/grenade spam; it's the fucking medics who give preferential treatment to a single class; you'll have a medic on an all-demo team sitting on his Kritz when it could win the game because he's waiting for the shitty soldier with no points to waste it.

Actually I was trying to not be biased, but I see the problem more with medics preferring demos over soldiers, which is particularly frustrating since I'm always the soldier in that case

From what I can tell, this will be extremely easy to rig to favor one over the other, if enough people had the resolve.
Get a server full of people supporting the Demo, half go soldier and let themselves get killed over and over and over again until the count is through the roof.
I rarely play as either (though I play Demo more...) so I don't care who gets the weapon. I almost hope it ISN'T demo because as a very avid Engineer player, this would upset me to give them something else to fuck up my sentries with :(

no shit, all the classes weapons are exclusive and one of a kind to their kind, so of course the soldier and demo could both get their weps and both would have a one of the kind weapon that neither one got.

While you're on fire crying for a medic, you should be thankful that an engineer has a dispenser up to save your sorry ass. Engineers are more credit to team than most--their dispensers heal the team (medic's job, btw) and replenish ammo. Engies set up teleporters so you can defend your shit more effectively and get to the battle faster.
Not to mention building sentries to defend the point when you're too busy staring at some spray of ass and titties.
But hey, just because you can't be an effective engineer automatically means it's stupid, right?

While you're on fire crying for a medic, you should be thankful that an engineer has a dispenser up to save your sorry ass. Engineers are more credit to team than most--their dispensers heal the team (medic's job, btw) and replenish ammo. Engies set up teleporters so you can defend your shit more effectively and get to the battle faster.
Not to mention building sentries to defend the point when you're too busy staring at some spray of ass and titties.
But hey, just because you can't be an effective engineer automatically means it's stupid, right?

...okay, I don't like where this is going. They just gave a player class a name. I'm all for naming the supporting characters, but seriously? In my eyes, part of the appeal of the TF2 universe is how each class, while retaining a background to add to the point of what each class does and why, is still just an empty, nameless, expendable stereotype. It adds to the game's comical design.
Also, I thought the whole point of breaking up the friendship was to prevent the Demoman and Soldier from talking about the Administrator, thus making them realize that they're working for the same person, yet Miss Pauling goes and openly admits that they went and made the same offer to the Soldier. I don't get it. Never mind they fixed it.
What I'm most afraid of is that Valve is going to get TOO serious with making something out of the universe's characters. I like how nonsensical TF2 is, but it isn't the same when you fill in the blanks with logic while still making logical fallacies.

It's not stated, yes, however, it seems implied.
The Administrator says that it's not acceptable because they "might talk about work... they might talk about us," leading me to think that RED and BLU mercs are kept in the dark about RED and BLU being the same.
The motive behind this war is unclear. Right now it feels like a bad fanfiction, where the writer was going in one direction with it and decided to suddenly change it.

I'm someone who aims my rockets at people when I play as the soldier, not at their feet. This comes as a nice update for myself, even though I can see myself getting annoyed by this if I were to play as the Heavy.

Reminds me of this game once on 2fort where two engies built a sentry (both Engies collaborated on the single sentry for some reason) in our own base (not in the Intelligence room, but in that room outside of the Intel room). My team, being composed of idiots, decided to ignore the sentry, and instead kept attacking the enemy. Myself, realizing that at some point in this game we would have to deal with these Engies, picked the Soldier and went to confront them. Now before you tell me that I should have gone as a Demo and stickied their asses, this was probably the third game of TF2 I had played, so I didn't actually know my way around completely, but where was I? Oh right, soldier. So I rushed down to our base, and turned the corner to see the sentry. I ducked into the nearest spawn room (which happened to be in the Sentry's line of fire, but out of the range of the targeting thingy), and for the next 5 minutes, I shot at the sentry with my rockets, ducking back into the spawn room every time the sentry shot back, while the Engies repaired the thing. I eventually chose the Heavy, shot at the thing, scared the Engineers away, and destroyed the sentry with rockets while they ducked out, but yeah, moral of story, maybe the sentry could use a little more threat from a soldier.
Second moral: I have come a long ways since my early days in TF2.

People are talking about a possible Engineer update to end the war/close to it, seeing as it is the last class that needs updated (and Valve is looking to get the updates out to the 360 users). It seems as if it would make sense. The newspapers are also dropping subtle hints that perhaps the Engineer is watching the war (he seems to appear in every paper, if you'll notice).
I'm hoping this is the case.

First off, I doubt this will affect Sentries. I don't even remember any time where a rocket damaged one of my Sentries and it wasn't splash damage. If they have a clear line of site to your sentry, they either are almost dead from being shot at continually by dual mini-guns and rockets, or it is a special situation (like the one in my story, where they only way I actually survived was by ducking into a spawn room and just popping my head out every 2 seconds to shoot off a couple rockets).
Second off.....actually, I only had one point. Fuck it, I don't know why, but I keep always saying "First off", even when I only have one point to get across.

It's decreased splash damage, so rocket jumping could very well be impossible with it :v:

besides, you will be able to fire off more shots faster and they will all hit your little sentry. Faster than you can build it up.

I would like to see a magnet or something that the engie can use to throw any demoman/soldier projectiles off course. Being a target it would probably die quickly, and because of its purpose the engineer would probably be to far from it to do anything about it except rebuild it when it blows up.

Likely, it won't be a simple 60% + 25%; the rocket by default does 60% of the base rocket damage. The base damage is the one increased; so it will be 60% of the upgraded damage (i.e. 60% + 25% of 60%, i.e. 75% damage.)
So new rockets will do 75% damage of a standard rocket when rocket jumping. It's still a sizable increase, however.
As for sentries, from my experience, they already go down quite easily if the attacking soldier is out of its firing range. The most successful building takedowns that I've seen have been done through splash damage; now that this is heavily lessened, the soldiers will have to rely on having a straight shot. Also, with the decreased radius, the surrounding buildings/engie will be a little better off, and providing you've got a well-placed L3 dispenser and are whacking accordingly, it shouldn't be that much of a difference. In fact, the biggest draw of the launcher (80% increased rocket speed) has considerably negligible impact, as the sentries are stationary.

Keep in mind that the shield grants a 65% decrease in damage taken from projectiles. Nevermind the fact that the demoman now has the capability to move faster than a scout.
They obviously made the two weapons to balance one another out.
Oh, and on another note for everyone:
REMEMBER, when something is charging at you, and you don't want to get hit, running in a line along with that charging thing WILL GET YOU KILLED!

What if the sentry is visible and the Soldier is out of the firing range? There's no defending it that way. You could be on top of your game sitting at your sentry and not even that would save it. When you see a soldier shooting that thing at your gun the best thing to do would just be to walk away and find a new place, because there's just no contesting this new gun.
Why are you putting sentries down in places where it can be destroyed so easily out of it's range? :allears:

And if they can't do that in normal servers the original argument is irrelevant, teleporters are still by far the more efficient method of crossing the battlefield.

Baffling how you continue to show absolutely no knowledge of TF2.
A soldier can rocket jump in any map, on any server. He can get to the fight faster than any other class except the demo.

Furthermore, teleporters are really only of use to heavies and scrubs who can't rocket jump, you should probably play on servers where the population is less terrible.
Really, engineers in general really need to remember they have a shotgun. Far too often an engineer just stands still next to his buildings and whacks away at them not really contributing anything to his team.
Excellent engineers know how to drop a teleporter on the way to the front and then set up a nice level 1 in a spot where you can surprise scrubs and shotgun them in the face.
Educate yourself about the game before you reveal yourself to be utterly uniformed in these threads.
Let's get back to discussing the real focus of this update, the demoman and the soldier. Engineers are terrible and you should feel terrible.

Engie is still a part of the TEAM. Last time I checked, it was called TEAM Fortress 2. Some people in this thread are trying to diminish the role of the Engineer on the team (not saying you, Yoko, I'm going on a general rant here). But just because he's not out there on the front lines like the pyro, or the heavy, doesn't make him useless.
It's like arguing that the sniper is useless because he's not up in the heat of battle. It's not the sniper's JOB to be out in the front--he's SUPPOSED to be in the back, picking off other snipers and possible threats headed towards the front line. And the Engie is similar.
An engineer is meant to sustain control points until the team has moved forward to the next point (to which he then moves his gear), or to defend the intelligence when everyone else cares more about their k/d than the objective. They provide health and ammo when a medic is too busy chasing a heavy around, and they offer a faster route to the front lines. An engineer has an important job. Just because you take dispensers and teleporters for granted doesn't make the entire class worthless.

yeah, scrubs like heavies medics pyros snipers engineers scouts and spies. Team Fortress 2 just needs to be Demo and Solider Fortress because rocket/sticky jumping is the only requirement to being a good PRO player.

Usually I engoy playing engie (lolseewhatidid) but lately its just been pointless. Being a spy is so much fun now. If there are many soldiers on the enemy team, disguise as a friendly demoman and run into view momentarily. just watch the soldiers all bugout for a chance to kill a demoman. Works the other way around too, but not quite as well.

The update says "25% more destructive force" which is why I assumed it meant towards Sentries/buildings. If it had 25% increase in damage, it would've just said so instead of using the wording it did. And don't put it past Valve.
I guess we'll need to wait and see how this works out.Not going to happen. Really. It's so obviously overpowered that there is no way that they'd make the damage increase apply to sentries, let alone sentries only.

Teleporters are a faster method of moving entire teams strategically across much larger distances than any Soldier or Demoman could hope to achieve on a regular server due to the amount of health you use while projectile jumping. That said, the Engineer is an extremely important requirement for successfully taking and holding capture points and fortifying key locations on other game types. Any statement contrary to that is simply immature "my class is holier than thou" trolling and/or flaming.
I myself constantly venture short distances away from my Sentry/Dispenser fortress and take the fight too the enemy, luring them back to my Sent and taunting if I have to to lure them around that final corner of doom.

To be honest, whenever I play engie, a soldier is never really a huge threat to my encampment as long as I am close enough to respond in time.
