First real attempt with 3ds max 2010. It's still a WIP of course.
Gulag underground control center from MW2;

There's not much to crit. You have a lot of primitive shapes stuck together and even though I haven't seen the MW2 level, I can bet someone who has will come in here and tell you how you're doing it wrong. You also have entirely too many polys for whats needed.

Those smooth cylinders and spheres are going to absolutely murder frame rates. Basically, that is entirely in line with what Con said.

im redoing it at the moment, it has 122,000 polys. >.< haha
I'll stop it having 200 sides on the cylinder then. ;) like i said, it's my first try. how many sides should i go for, that look smooth but are low poly?

im redoing it at the moment, it has 122,000 polys. >.< haha

Depends on how big the cylinder is. I have no reference as to how big these are supposed to be relative to the character (stick an MC or MC-sized cube in there for size reference).

i would say about, 5-6 scorpians tall (length ways).
Edit: I'm heading off for the night, i'll look back tomorrow of any of the have me awsum enough to leave some tips. ;)

Of course thats assuming he is making a map if not then the hole framerate killing is out the window.

I didn't even realise this was in the halo 2 section.
Meh ignore my comment but yeah i agree, this going ingame will kill your framerate unless your using freelancers pc.

Doesn't help you when the engine it's being built for is optimised to be shit on PC.

H2V isn't worth your time.
HCE is getting there.
My suggestion is to go with Source or Unreal instead. Different way of mapping, but if you put some effort into it you'll learn quickly.

A number means nothing. Let's see what you've made so far and we'll tell you if you're on the right track or not. Additional wireframe renders will be helpful.
