View Full Version : Major Xfire glitch. Halp!

For some reason, my external hard-drive could not see the Xfire directory, where the installer put them in. I went ahead and reinstalled.

It gave me an error about extracting xfire_exception.exe, and crashed.

I returned to the folder to find this:

Now obviously this might be a bit of a problem. No matter how hard I try, I cannot delete those files at all using Window's normal deletion process. Renaming them doesn't help either, since it says the file doesn't exist. Powering off and powering on my hard-drive doesn't work, it still sits there, mocking me.

If you notice, thats about 6 9 gigabytes of memory being used up by this.

If it would be possible to explain how to solve this error, I would be very thankful.

Was gonna recommend delinvfile, (the older version that was freeware) but the site that I downloaded it from before google was all whoa this site is malicious all of a sudden. If you can find a reputable download source somewhere go for that.

ninja e: the actual site isn't listed as malicious it's the download mirror: site (http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/)

It can no longer be downloaded from that site for free.

All you get is a limited trial, which only allows 3 deletions OR renames and then you have to buy it for $26.95.

Unless you have a old version of this that WAS freeware, I guess I'll wait for another option (not that I don't like the other users options, it's just that I don't think it's THAT necessary.)

Sorry for the double post, but here I solved my own problem on Xfire's Support forums:

These are the errors I get when i try to do the following:

Install Error:

Rename Error:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/ShadowFireMario/rename_error.png

Delete Error:

However, while screenshotting the install, I noticed this popped up near my task bar:

I now have the solution. I just have to run CHKDISK and reboot. Should be done quick.
