Well, I don't use TeamSpeak that often but I use Ventrilo much less due to it's ugly GUI. Though the wait for this is finally over, it's still in beta form but now apparently has an SDK(?).

Download the Client or Server (Note: Marked as a Temporary Site):
http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=teamspeak3

EDIT:
Upon looking at it, the GUI and Voice quality of TeamSpeak 3 compared to TeamSpeak 2 has improved a lot and to me it sounds better then Ventrilo. You can also set your own Avatar in TeamSpeak 3, but I haven't been able to do so in Freelancers server. The max size listed for an Avatar in the documentation is 300x300 (pixels). Added you can also 'Poke' other clients with a certain reason which gets displayed to you along with a sound notification of being poked.

Wow, I remember using TS2 back in the EPG Servers and H2CE days...it really took this long for 3 to come out? They must have did some heavy core changes or something

Sound quality is better than Vent and even Skype from what I can tell, and the 3D sound environment stuff is neat. The permissions system is overly robust though, could do with some stream lining. They need a web control panel as well, I'm not a fan of this command line ServerQuery setup they've got going on.

I'll have to check this out, vent has been dominating teamspeak for the past 3 years.

No? Thats a very biased statement you made there. They always seemed quite equal, have yet to find a precise display of facts that lists which one is better online.

9.5/10 WoW Guilds Use Vent, on any server due to the simplistic and easy to use functionality.

I like Vent better, but it's more of an opinion thing.

where did you get that statistic?

Experience probably. I'd have to second him on that number. Also, EVGA uses Vent for it's competitions.

I do like both, though. TS3 looks much nicer than the previous version, too.

From my limited experience with both, Vent is better than TS2 for sound quality, but it has a weird interface. I've heard good things about mumble also, but not had an opportunity to try it.

We'll see the numbers, if there ever are any, now that TeamSpeak 3 is out.

I've used both equally on and off throughout my time gaming. Initially it was TS2, used for mechwarrior 4 multiplayer, then we tried vent and didn't like the lag it caused our host, so we switched back to ts2. Then I started playing BF2 mod ladders, and they ALL used TS2 because it has an easy to understand bracketing channel system. Nowadays I use vent more often than not because the surf clan I'm in in CSS uses it for its sound quality.

I think it really doesn't matter that much either way, vent has better sound quality, but TS2 seems simpler to me.

Yea, it's just a matter of opinion, and what the majority of your fellow gamers use.

If you have a clan/guild who uses one, it's easier just to adjust then go against the grain.

I say this mainly based on what I have experienced and see. It's a simple matter of opinion, but I've found vent to be more convenient and superior. I used to play an array of games competatively and in every community vent was nearly a given. The major IRC network gamesurge, vent is widespread. Almost every server rental company website I've been to chooses vent as their primary VOIP. Basically what i'm getting at is where I come from, vent is the unanymous choice and everyone uses it. I have noticed however that teamspeak is often a beginner's choice (beginner - see: noob). Vent is also more secure from hacking, this fact is as clear as the sky is blue. I can only support my arguement mainly from the gaming community side of preference (when I say this I mean more than just the people that play the game). I have no clue about bussinesses and whatnot, other than the fact traveler's insurance uses vent.

It's another kind of 'VoIP' program, such as TeamSpeak or Ventrilo.
