Okay, I havent played TF2 since just after the spy/pryo update.

I played yesterday and omg I had no idea what was going on. Demoman had a sword and what looked like he took some crack and legged it at me welding the fucking huge sword.

Hats?!?!

Tons of new guns, some guy had a sandwich level 96, how the heck do you level up sandwich?

So yeah, if you could give me a brief summary of what the heck has happened, and what you'd recommend I do/get first :D

Soldier/Demo update JUST happened. Both classes have been updated, Soldier gets a fuckass powerful Rocket with almost no splash damage, a "Buff Banner" which turns the Soldier into pretty much a Medigun for everyone around it when active, and a Pickaxe which increases movement speed/damage as the Soldier loses health (but also makes it so Medics can't heal him).
Demoman gets new Sticky Grenades which he can detonate one group at a time (as opposed to all at once), a shield which reduces the amount of damage he takes, and a "Haunted" sword which wants heads. Really wants heads. And it has a huge melee range, PLUS when it gets a crit, the Demoman will charge faster than a Scout at a target and decapitate it.

Hats. Hats hats hats hats hats. Caused a shitstorm when they were released.
Essentially, play a shitton and there is a 1 in 50 chance you'll unlock a hat, with the exception of the Cheater's Lament (which you get for not using Achievement servers) and the Ghastly Gibus, which you get for dominating another player which is wearing the Ghastly Gibus.

The levels are a joke, making fun of WoW.

There is also crafting, something I haven't quite figured out myself.

It was the Spy/Sniper update actually... Pyro was the second update...

Medic ("Gold Rush")
Pyro
Heavy
Scout
Spy/Sniper
Classless
Halloween
Solder/Demo ("War")

Yeah, I had played a shitton up until the Scout update, and then I stopped playing for a while, and now I'm playing a shitton again.
Meaning I have everything unlocked for Medic, Heavy, and Pyro, but no one else. :p

Direct hit makes soldier (even) eas(ier)y mode if you can aim, enjoy 1sk'ing scouts and engys and snipers.

That's why I fucking want it.
I can aim perfectly well.
But I do less damage because I'M NOT FIRING AT THEIR FUCKING FEET.

Christ, 3 achievements left until I get the Direct Hit, and random drops hate me right now.

You got the part about the demo wrong. The Chargin' Targe is what causes the charging effect. When it is recharged, you press attack2 and you run at them. While running, your crit ammount increases (cant really explain that very well. basically at the VERY end of your lunge, if you swing, its almost always an instant kill. You get more and more "crittier" as the lunge extends")
And you can still be Medic'd when you have your pick axe out.

The Direct Hit is amazing. I hope the don't nerf it :(

I'd suggest slowing it a bit but leaving everything else the same, that way 1sk'ing scouts is a bit harder.

The RL still has it's place as a crowd control rocket fortunately :)

Can it 1sk grounded scouts? The ones i've hit must've been recently healed by a medic.

Hats are a random drop. Completely worthless except as a social symbol. The only hats that are not random are these:

ghastly gibus (busted up top hat): Obtained by dominating another player who is wearing a ghastly gibus. How the original gibus's were obtained I have no idea.

Cheaters lament (busted up halo): valve went on a witch hunt and found a bunch of people using external programs to gain hats, so they deleted those peoples inventory and gave everyone else the cheaters lament.

Bills hat (green beret): Pre-order l4d2. No longer available.

as for updates, the soldier and demoman were just updated. You may also have missed the sniper and spy updates.

Spy gained a new revolver that is accurate but slow and weak, some new invis watches. One allows you to remain invisible indefinitely as long as you dont move. the other disables your cloak, but will cloak you when you take a nonlethal hit, and make people think you died by spawning a ragdoll.

Sniper gained a bow, jarate (jar of pee), and the "razorback" which protects you from one backstab per life. Jarate is good for extinguishing burning team mates. The bow is very powerful but difficult to use.

Soldier gained a new rocket launcher, that shoots slightly stronger rockets with no splash damage, but they travel very fast. Useless if you want to hit more than one person at once. He also gains a pickaxe that makes him run faster and melee harder the lower his health is, but only while he has it equipped, as well as a bugle that lets him give a mini-crit boost to any surrounding allies if his rage meter is full. (I dont understand how the rage meter thing works, else id explain better). Also because soldier won the war, he gets a pair of boots that greatly reduce the damage from his own rockets, allowing you to rocket jump a lot more.

Demoman gained a sword with higher melee damage and range than most weapons, and a shield that boosts his defense and allows him to run at ludicrous speed for a short time (the crack-thing you described above). It is OP, and it is bad. He also gets a sticky bomb launcher that can lay more sticky bombs than the old one

Can it 1sk grounded scouts? The ones i've hit must've been recently healed by a medic.

I dont think so, unless theyve got the sandman. I spend a lot of time outside the enemy spawn door, you see, and sometimes scouts survive the first shot, having had no medic buff them.

The pro's (CERTAINLY NOT ME) can airshot with the standard rocket launcher, the Direct Hit is too fast for what it does.

Soldier won the war? What war?

Also, whats this deal with crafting, I hear you can like, "use up" hats/guns and get metals, and when you get enough metals you can make a new hat, but you might make a new crappy had which will absolutely suck.

I take it, all these new weapons and stuff are done via achievements, or can you pick them up?

Abdurahman
December 27th, 2009, 12:15 AM
Yes, there are random pick ups, and you can get lucky and get the new weapons, but it's just your luck if you get one of the new weapons.

Ah right, well I've been playing as soldier/sniper past 2 days, got pretty good scores.
