MW2 is fun, yes, but it definitely was a shitty online experience for PC players. Hell, I don't even know how console players put up with the "migrating to new host" bullshit. IW said the matches would not be interrupted by migrating to a new host. They need a reality check. Anything that stops a match at anytime is called interruption. Lag is worse than dedicated servers, but it's manageable. However, MW2 is far from "the most lagless shit ever," so to speak.

i was expressing the fact that so far i've had no issue with mw2, and i actually find it much better than cod4 in terms of multiplayer - which means a lot (in my eyes, at least) coming from someone who generally hates even slightly unrealistic games with the intensity of a thousand suns. the insults were piss-taking, not heartfelt.

To get any kind of decent game going I would probably need a weeks notice before hand, because our group uses a forum to sign up for and organize games. I generally just attend games that other people decide to host, mainly because I'm a lazy bastard and don't want to have to deal with all the field fee collections and shit.

I highly suggest taking a look at these brand new "CanSoft" airsoft guns (http://007airsoft.com/instock.htm), they have certain parts of the gun (usually part of the receiver) made of dark tinted composites so they can get through customs. These may even be legal in Australia but I don't know the laws regarding to airsoft over there.

Also, what military are you enlisted in again? I'm posting a request for someone to host a game on the 16th/17th of January and I'm trying to give em a brief description of you (internet guy I've known of for a few years that's into military and airsoft, idk?) so they know why you're there.

yeah, best i can do right now is a bracket time period... just put out the warning order (well, i guess you just did anyway) so they're ready to go when we can finalise a date. reason i'd prefer a steyr over anything else is just familiarity - while i know how to work an ar, ak, basically anything, i'm intimately familiar with our f88s and therefore am better at handling something that's the same shape and weight (and balances the same? or are the former two the only things airsoft really has in common with the real thing?)

also keep in mind that i have a bum knee right now. as i said i can move but i don't want to risk another (inevitably worse) injury, so the less running i need to do, the better; as of 20 seconds ago it seems i'm still having trouble getting into a kneeling shooting position (the whole back of my leg seized up and i went down like a bag of rocks), i can fare a little better with my compression bandage off but i need to take things slowly. if it can be organised somewhere with shallower (<1ft) snow and little to no ice or rough ground, that'd be good; alternately i could just not move much. obviously this saps a lot of the fun but it's better than nothing, and sure as hell better than permanently injuring my knee and either getting charged for injuring myself even worse when i know my knee's bad, or permanently losing some of the function of my knee. with luck i'll be doing better by the time we play, but we'll see how we go. it's not even a certainty yet but i like to be prepared.

ask that guy with the $600 steyr if he can supply it with the original 1.5x optic only for less cost. i don't care about fancy adjustable scopes or red dots or whatever else it was he had, just give me a 1.5 and i'll be happy.

Looks like the original one I posted is still available, but it has some feeding issues that the owner wants to get worked out before selling... CA does generally produce quality guns, so I'll get some pics for u k?

E: After looking around some more that second one is almost a steal, all the other AUG's I can find are upgraded and modified even more than the second one (see this (http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/Styrak/IMG_2901.jpg), and this (http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9247/dsc01871.jpg)). A lot of the standard ones are gamed to hell (lots of scratches and breaks and internal problems) or look like shady deals with no pictures and an "email me and don't post here to contact" message. If I were looking to buy an AUG I'd get that second one since it's been upgraded and looks to be well taken care of!

i dunno still. i don't mind some wear and tear as long as it functions most of the time - my steyr at basic was very temperamental because some fuckhead who had it before me needed to go to rifle care 101. it was all good once some parts were replaced (gas piston, as mine had been sanded down; guide rod springs, as mine were close to knackered; bolt, as mine SPLIT IN FUCKING HALF suddenly and for no readily apparent reason). external wear is just character as far as i care. as long as the internals are still alright, i don't mind a rifle that's scratched to shit because that's exactly how the real thing looks unless you're lucky enough to scoop a re-arsenalled rifle, or maybe one of the new f88sa2s (god i want one).

this is what we were issued at kapooka (when i go back to my unit i'll probably get stuck with the older design with fixed optical sight, but oh well):

that's an f88sa1 with the 1.5x adi optical sight, which is issued with the rifle and serialled to it as well. as you can see, it differs slightly from the aug a2, which is probably its closest relative.

freelancer - keep in mind, i'm not an airsofter, i'm a grunt. i don't want something that's had the living shit modified out of it, i want something familiar and as unaltered as possible. if there's any alterations needed, i'll make them, not someone else. i belong to the 'hoard your shit and don't let anyone else touch it because they'll fuck it up' school of thought, and i also apply it when buying things.

AEG's are that simple. The only way you can muff it up is if it has a selector for semi/full auto and you fidget with it while shooting. Or if you open the gun with a screwdriver and fuck with it, or maybe get it super dooper wet and a fuck ton if dirt in them.

You must of used some of their older crap, back when I first started airsofting their G36 series was one of the only decent lines going. Since then they've stepped up their QA and manufacturing and almost all the new lines are great. Also, a lot of people in our area buy CA guns for their superior externals and then replace the internals or upgrade the shit out of them.

Anyhow, I'll look around for a stock AUG Ross but I doubt I'll be able to find a decent one in time for the 16th/17th. Also, unless it's -10(C) or warmer I doubt we'll get many players on that weekend. I'm going to call the fields and see if they're open and able to accept some airsofters.

Skirmishes are always fun at Bragg as well, especially in the town. And I remember the "pilot rescue" scenario we did was pretty fun on the field with the aircraft body.

Anything over 10 players should be fun if the weather is good, I'll take a drive out to the Brag field a couple days before hand and check the conditions... Last time I was there the snow was knee deep and pretty funny to try and run through!

Oh and AEG operation is easy as hell regardless of what gun you're using. Most charging handles or bolts only operate so you can pull the ejection port back and access the hop-up. If you rent or borrow a gun from someone then it should already be setup for hop-up and stuff. All you need to do is swap magazines (so you'll need to know where the mag release is), wind magazines (if you're using a hicap), and operate the fire selector switch if the gun has one (Safe, Semi, Auto).

Looks like I might end up organizing this anyways, lol.

Oh and field fees are at least $15-$20, and if someone wants you to rent instead of borrow you'll need that cash as well. As for ammo, you can use some of mine as long as you don't go trigger happy!

@Kalub: Ebay doesn't work since we're in Canada, most guns are in USA and we can't get em past the border... Almost all the guns on Ebay are also crap.

Btw Ross, what sidearms are you Aussies trained on, and when do they issue them to you (for what ops, etc)? A few units here have been getting SIG P225's and the new Close Protection teams have been getting P226's, but most are using really dated 9mm Browning High Powers... JTF2 gets whatever the fuck they want, so I'm not even going to go there.

Anyways, on recommendation from a friend of mine who I've mentioned before on here (ex-Ranger/SEALS hand to hand combat instructor) I think I might work at getting into a Naval Boarding Party... He says it's the best of both worlds, lots of travel and more intense strategic training than most Army units get without going special forces. He actually recommended I go for some type of aircrew and get assigned to be a helicopter gunner (like the miniguns on UH-60's), except we don't have helicopters powerful enough to mount guns on...

This will be after I "test the waters" with a few years in the Reserves of course... If my god damn audiology testers hurry up and schedule me for an exam! Oh, my hearing is apparently just below the "intake" standard for the CF, great huh! Number one suspect is that I've been hunting for years now with no ear protection what-so-ever. Now my hearing is at the point where they're afraid they'll damage it further while I'm in-service and they don't want to let me in so they can cover their asses.

why, have you had extensive experience with the steyr and also the m16/m4 family like some of my training platoon's staff had? or is this a joke about the m16? put it this way, after the new parts, my steyr shot beautifully (except the cracked bolt which needed replacing anyway, not the rifle's fault, but the guys who passed it on the last inspection's fault). then that got replaced. toot toot. no stoppages.
