View Full Version : Sound Problems - Static and such.

It seems no matter what I do my sound card decides it should always make a sound. Most of the time I just hear what sounds like very light Morse code mixed in with static/feedback. Most of the time it's really quiet but doesn't change at all even when the volumes at 0.

I have a Realtek High Definition Audio sound card, and the latest drivers. I haven't tried anything but messing with the driver or trying to downgrade but so far it hasn't gotten me anywhere. It also does it to my microphone apparently, and decides it should play the same sound to others through my microphone.

Any idea of what could be the problem or how I could fix it? It's really starting to get annoying.

The front panel audio jacks on my mATX box has a similar issue - hooking it up to another front panel audio jack improved the quality somewhat but the popping and static was still there.

The issue probably relates to the motherboard audio chipset itself. I have since upgraded that comp to a Razer AC-1 and the popping/static went away.

Bummer, weird though because I think I've always had this problem but only noticed it once I got my new headset.

Pretty sure it has to do with some sort of static coming from your gpu.

Really? Now that I do think about it some more, not that I haven't been thinking, whenever I have a game running the static seems more and more. Even when I have an image up on the screen the static seems to be a lot louder / noticeable compared to just staring at a desktop with no real tasks that require much GPU running.

It's normal when games fire up. The low wattage needed for sound impulses can get easily affected by outside signals or energy oscillation inside the system which increase when the computer requires more power (e.g. when gaming etc.)

Deal with it I guess. Maybe there is some way like a noise gate that reduces noise :P

Du has recht. Ich bin ein Berliner.

Strange though, does this mean if I get a better PSU it might fix this problem?

Hey do you have any other devices that use the USB ports (especially in the front jack), if you do remove all of them (and all of the back, i guess), and listen for it.

I doubt a different PSU will solve it, why not buy a real soundcard? My mobo has the same onboard soundcard, once i start a game like halo it starts making noises.. mostly when in postgame carnage report strangly but my main soundcard (SB Audigy 4) isn't producing any strange sounds in any way by games or whatever.

It's still there. :gonk:

Only thing you could do is build a resistor between your speakers and the sound output. Or try this...lower your Windows volume down a lot and increase the speaker volume or the other way around.

Sound impulse are in the milli volts...they barely need any energy for the impulse itself that's why they get affected by everything around it.
