Was reading the news on my phone earlier and saw this little gem. (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nearby-Supernova-Could-Destroy-Earth-131087.shtml)

Being the massive galaxy that it is, the Milky Way contains a little bit of everything. This includes highly explosive white dwarf stars that explode periodically at relatively stable intervals. Such a celestial body, which is long overdue for its next powerful eruption, lies closer to our planet than astronomers first estimated. According to experts, the Earth could be threatened by the effects of the massive supernova explosion, when it will finally take place millions of years from now.

The time we have until the white dwarf reaches its Limit is directly related to the object's size, so we may be in for a surprise faster than ten million years.

But yeah, whats the bet's this will be the new 2012 theory spreading like the latest plague of flu.

I hope it blows up and kills us all. Then no one will be around to make conspiracies out of it.

fuck that star. i'd be more worried when Betelgeuse goes nova. but again, that's still a while away, even in cosmic terms.

This star had been going nova every 20 years until the 60's, now their worried the star is going to go super nova, much more dramatic.

I doubt humanity would even last another million years.

not really.

not really.

The white dwarf is known to be a relapsing nova, which means that it exhibits thermonuclear explosions once every 20 years or so. The last instances when such explosions were recorded took place in 1890, 1902, 1920, 1944 and 1967.
Yes really.

Let's goto another solar system with every female model and then come back when its done to start "operation repopulation".
