Oh great, another e-peen thread. I wish people would, y'know, discuss things, this being a forum and all. All I'm seeing lately is "look at me and my stuff" threads.
What do you expect people to say concerning this thread beyond "Oh, cool." or sling insults? Honestly, it's pointless.

Sadly, it's quite apparent that you all missed the fact that I asked a question. "Guess what I'm doing".
If this was a "look at all my stuff" thread, you'd know.
"Guess what I'm doing" is such an open-ended question.
Judging by the pictures and your posting history, the answer to the above question will be you bragging about something.
This forum is about discussing things and helping others, not discussing you.
I find it hilarious how you try to play it cool whenever somebody says anything hostile. You act indifferent towards other members and the staff, I really don't see why you're here. If you want to go boast about your equipment and show things off, go post your shenanigans on MLIA and go post your gadgets on some gadget forum. Communities like that are all about showing off.
If you have something to share every so often, fair enough. But almost everything you post about is "look at me, look at my stuff." Is your self esteem that low that you need the recognition of people you'll probably never see in real life?
Additionally, when other members share their stuff, they generally adopt an attitude of: "hey guys, I got this new thing, it's pretty cool, anybody else have similar and have any advice about it?" whereas you adopt something like this: "Look at me, look at my things, I know everything about the this thing, I'm so cool." When other members post threads like that, it's pretty obviously sarcastic, however your posts clearly are not.
TL;DR: Social etiquette, get some or get out.
Anyway, directly relating to this thread, you could have given an explanation about what you were doing, which, to be honest would be more impressive than "look at me and this stuff, guess what we're doing." I'm assuming you did some sort of DSLR video while driving. That or you could have waited until you had something to show as a result and then posted that alongside the setup pictures.
Cortexian
January 8th, 2010, 12:09 PM
You're still not getting that this has absolutely nothing to do with gadget or skill boasting. This entire thread was about trying to get community discussion going, speculating on what I was doing creating with the setup I showed in the pictures.
Instead you all took up a biased "oh look Freelancer is just posting about his shit again because he's an elitist prick" instead of actually reading the thread like a normal person. I honestly don't see how you could of all misinterpreted my OP, it all looks pretty damn clear to me!
It's obvious that you're all too dense to look beyond your current stereotype biased attitude, so I'll just ignore all the irrelevant comments in this thread from here on out. I'll reply to actual guesses and responses to the finalized video when I post it (take that as a hint if you wish).

You're still not getting that this has absolutely nothing to do with gadget or skill boasting. This entire thread was about trying to get community discussion going, speculating on what I was doing creating with the setup I showed in the pictures. So you basically want the community to talk about what you were doing with some set of equipment? That's not really a community discussion as it is simply a discussion about you. Perhaps if there were an actual product involved, it might be okay, but it seems to just be pictures of you and some shit.
Instead you all took up a biased "oh look Freelancer is just posting about his shit again because he's an elitist prick" instead of actually reading the thread like a normal person. I honestly don't see how you could of all misinterpreted my OP, it all looks pretty damn clear to me! I dunno how it works for you, but from what I've examined over the years, if everyone misinterprets something in the exact same manner, it was probably done incorrectly. You're basically going "2x+3y=10, find x" when you were expecting your students to find y all along.
It's obvious that you're all too dense to look beyond your current stereotype biased attitude, so I'll just ignore all the irrelevant comments in this thread from here on out. I'll reply to actual guesses and responses to the finalized video when I post it (take that as a hint if you wish). This is going to be a very empty thread for you. And, I can't believe I/we have to say this AGAIN FOR THE MILLIONTH GODDAMN TIME, if you don't like the general community, why on Earth are you here? Don't you have some "prestigious" site to be installing dumb plugins for?
TL;DR: Social etiquette, get some or get out. This poorly executed closer made my brain hurt..

Anyways, unlocked because there's something to discuss now!

That's what we were able to get using the setup shown in the OP pics. We used the video mode on the T1i at 720p/30FPS and then sped all the clips up to 1000% in Adobe Premiere. Next time we get together we're going to try something similar except as an actual time lapse (take a picture every X seconds and make a slide show style clip in Premiere).
Questions/Comments/Suggestions?

Like I said on YouTube...
Canadian roads are shitty it seems xD Maybe try a smoother suspension? A real highway would have been nice. The camera sometimes is to shaky.
Now that you do single images I would make the shutter speed higher so you get those faded lights. (or am I wrong here)

We were mostly driving around communities and that's why the roads were very bumpy (lots of uncleared snow still). The last clip in the video is on a brand new highway, so it's a little better.
We had a GMC Yukon for that run, I'll try using our Buick Park Avenue for the next one using stills, the suspension in the Buick is really smooth so it should turn out a bit better.
We'll need to find a good balance for the shutter speed, too high and we won't let enough light in, too low and the images will come out blurred do to car motion. I believe ISO is what we'll have to play with to get the lights and stuff properly in the image (could you clarify what "faded lights" you're referring too)?

get a Mustang or some other american muscle car
go on the highway
and do it
so the cars lights make it look like you're going warp speed
go
more points if you fly to germany and do it on the autobahn. speed limits non-existant and all.

January 9th, 2010, 06:25 PM
Would have been better with the camera mounted on the outside of the vehicle. Of course, this may have led to problems during the car-wash scene. At the very least, get a shot without the rear-view mirror. The driver is distracting, and your viewers may get bored of watching the roads, and focus on his spastic motions.
Cortexian
January 9th, 2010, 06:29 PM
Yea, we were worried about that from the get-go... Unfortunately the Yukon has a very narrow windshield since the dash is so gigantic and the mirror is right in the way...
When we go out next we'll look at alternate tripod mounting locations in the Buick, perfectly center between the two front seats doesn't seem to work so well...
